About the Endowment Accountant
The endowment accountant reports to the client accounting services manager and will focus on providing client accounting services, quality management, and support to ensure prompt, accurate, and courteous customer service. This position is critical in working alongside multiple departments within nonprofit organizations and is an accounting team component focused on pooled endowment fund administration. This role is conducted remotely from a designated home office, with some in-person meetings.
Areas of Responsibility & Duties Within: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collaborate across departments, externally and internally, to deliver excellent service and support
Ensure deliverables and processes are executed in accordance with internal procedures, policy, and FASB/GASB
Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and the competitive landscape to provide insights, recommendations, and product improvements
Perform monthly/quarterly reconciliations of client investment accounts and valuation closings
Manage workflows to ensure accurate data capture and inform clients of missing or incomplete information
Establish new pools, managers, and funds alongside updating spending payout parameters, administration fee requirements, and other fields
Lead Adavico software training sessions to improve user acceptance
Focus on process improvements, including more efficient workflows and automation
Cross-train and provide backup on all duties of the Endowment Accounting Services team
Assist clients with Adavico products or endowment-specific questions
Provide outstanding customer service and identify effective solutions to meet client needs
Serve as a subject matter expert on all Adavico software product lines and service offerings
Understand objectives, challenges, and requirements to build and nurture strong relationships
Conduct regular check-ins and showcase new features and updates to increase client adoption
Work together with Adavico service teams (Implementation, Foundation Accounting, and Endowment Accounting) for client journey success
The endowment accountant may be enlisted to assist with other duties as assigned. As with all Adavico employees, they will also stay current with technologies, industry trends, and best practices to introduce innovation, security, and process improvements into our work.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Licenses: CPA license preferred
Experience: 8+ years of progressively responsible financial accounting or auditing experience
Technical Competence: In-depth understanding of FASB (ASC 958, ASU 2016-14), GASB (SGAS), and UPMIFA requirements, business processes, internal controls, and financial accounting
Information Security: Experience handling sensitive, confidential information professionally and responsibly with the ability to adopt and maintain a security-forward stance for all transactions and activities
Audit: Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles/procedures; ability to navigate/interpret nonprofit financial statements
Proprietary Platform: Ability to develop advanced proficiency with Adavico Web Application and supporting systems
Tools: Proficiency with Microsoft 365 productivity apps and experience working with integrated accounting systems (e.g., Banner, Blackbaud, Ellucian, Jenzabar, Quickbooks, Veracross)
Professional Development: Participate in an ongoing process of learning new skills and technologies that improve job performance
Project Management: Strong time management and prioritization skills with an aptitude to simultaneously manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Self-Management: Ability to work with little or no supervision, and thrive independently from hybrid locations
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to write concisely, express thoughts clearly, and develop ideas in a logical sequence

Location: East Coast time zone with preferred locations in Virginia (Hampton Roads, Richmond) or North Carolina (eastern region, Raleigh)

Clearance: Ability to pass background and credit checks and enter into confidentiality agreements
