  • Responsibilities

    ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is for a full time Materials Lab Technician supporting the Weapons Surveillance and Testing Laboratory (WSTL). The lab provides surveillance testing and evaluation of weapon system components by developing test equipment and test procedures, conducting mechanical, materials, chemical, destructive and non-destructive tests on components during and after environmental conditioning, analyzing test results for reliability, and publishing stockpile reliability assessment reports from system deployment through system retirement.

     

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

    • Either Associate’s degree in an electronic field or a technical field of a military technical school and a minimum of 5 years’ experience. Or no degree with a minimum of 9 years technical experience including those listed in Required Skills (below).

    POSITION DUTIES:

    • Perform Ultrasonic C-scan and/or radiographic inspection to identify, locate, and measure subsurface flaws,

      Corrosion and delamination in a test parts.

    • Interpret Non-Destructive Test (NDT) results to determine if defects found render the article acceptable or unacceptable in accordance with inspection criteria.

    • Work independently to plan and accomplish complete projects

    • Operate test equipment to perform installation, system setup, check-out and troubleshooting

    • Ability to read and understand engineering documents, technical work instructions, drawings and specifications

    • Ability to explicitly follow written procedures and explosive safety regulations

    • Prepare written instructions for methods and techniques and writes reports for customer needs

    • Be able to write, speak and present clear, detailed technical monthly reports

    • Meet medical screening requirements and possess ability to be qualified and operate as an explosives handler

    • Perform other job related tasks as assigned by management.

    • Take responsibility for action items assigned, complete the actions and provide status

    • Able to satisfactorily complete background check and get a government clearance

    • Comply and follow company policies and procedures

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Current ASNT level 2 or NAS-410 Level 2 Certifications preferred, with the documented qualifications required to certify to NAS-410 Level 3 in the following methods: Ultrasonic testing (UT) and Radiographic Testing (RT).
    • Direct hands-on experience in performing materials evaluation, assessment and Non-Destructive Testing such as radiography and ultrasound
    • Knowledge American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) radiation safety and protection programs, policies, and procedures
    • ASNT Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel (IRRSP) certification
    • Ability to pass Jaeger Level 1 and color perceptions eye exams.
    • Knowledge of standard test equipment and monitoring devices for materials testing and characterization.
    • Ability to maintain and operate test instruments and systems, including an x-ray machine, ultrasound, or metallurgical equipment, to assist in equipment calibration, maintenance and application
    • Proficiency in materials sampling techniques and electron microscopy operations

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

    •  Must have a valid driver’s license.
