#2319 Test Engineer TE40 (Chemist II) Seal Beach WSTL
Role and Responsibilities:
This position is for a full time Chemist supporting the Weapons Surveillance and Testing Laboratory (WSTL). The lab provides
surveillance testing and evaluation of weapon system components by developing test equipment and test procedures,
conducting mechanical, materials, chemical, destructive and non-destructive tests on components during and after
environmental conditioning, analyzing test results for reliability, and publishing stockpile reliability assessment reports from
system deployment through system retirement.
Education / Experience Requirement:
• Master’s degree in Chemistry and at least 7 years’ of related professional experience
• Experience running the following equipment: High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Ultra Performance Liquid
Chromatography (UPLC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS), Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Bomb
Calorimetry (HEX), and Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer, including method development, the ability to decipher the test
outputs, calibrate/troubleshoot the test equipment, and make recommendations for improvements.
Position Duties:
• Conduct laboratory tests and integrate test results into comparative analysis of past data and baselines
• Operate Thermal Chemistry equipment (DSC, TGA, DMA, & TMA)
• Analytical Chemistry experience preferred
• Ability to clearly articulate in report format the test results using graphs, pictures, and observations in a timely manner.
Strong writing skills a must. Strong presentation skills a plus.
• Assist Chemistry Lab Lead with tasks to insure that the Chemistry Lab is properly maintained
• Assist Chemistry Lab Lead to prepare for inventories, inspections or audits
• Hands-on experience with energetic materials and other hazardous chemicals
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a level of QUAL/CERT Team Member status for handling and testing energetic materials
• Ability to communicate effectively with Chemistry Lab Lead, Lab Manager, Sponsor (customer), and other lab personnel.
• Ability to be flexible with periods of increased workloads
• Meet cost and schedule deadlines
• Work independently to plan and accomplish complete projects
• Ability to explicitly follow written procedures and explosive safety regulations
• Meet medical screening requirements and possess ability to be qualified and operate as an explosive’s handler
• Able to satisfactorily complete background check and get a government clearance
• Comply and follow company policies and procedures
Physical Requirements:
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Secret Clearance Required
