    Job Description

    AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, exceptionally talented Ecologist and Permitting Specialist for immediate employment in the Conshohocken, Philadelphia, or Mechanicsburg, PA or Germantown, MD or Arlington, VA office locations. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary collaborative environment. This position provides unlimited career growth potential while working with an excellent team comprised of a variety of staff and project managers in support of AECOM’s clients, including electric utilities, natural gas, and renewable industries. AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) department manages a wide variety of projects including impact assessments and siting studies, environmental field assessments (i.e. wetland delineations, species surveys, etc.), environmental regulatory permitting, environmental inspection, and many other scopes of work. The Mid-Atlantic EPP team primarily works on projects in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, Ohio, and West Virginia but opportunities exist to work in other states as well, if interested.

    The position reports to one of the listed offices, and AECOM offers a hybrid work environment through our Freedom to Grow program.

    The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Serve as a field technical and safety lead, technical writing and permitting lead, and mentor for junior staff.
    • Lead a variety of projects including stream, wetland, wildlife habitat assessments, site meetings with clients and agencies, prepare permit applications or other reports, and quality review deliverables prior to delivery to our clients.
    • Prepare technical and detailed reports for field survey summaries and permitting and siting tasks.
    • Permitting and ecological subject matter expert for federal, state and local permit application preparation and coordination with the reviewing agencies (USFWS, USACE, state and local agencies).
    • Coordinating with internal teams such as Cultural Resources, T&E species experts, GIS, Civil Engineering and others.
    • Ability to work as a team lead or independently.
    • Assist Senior Staff with business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients.
    • Periodically, work may require extended hours, remotely, night work, weekend work, and/or overnight travel.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental. Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field +4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    • The position requires fieldwork, and the candidate must be able to travel (including overnight).
    • Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
    • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 4+ years of consulting experience within the utilities and/or renewables industries.
    • 4+ years of permitting application preparation, supporting data collection and review, and preparation of scientific documents including wetland delineations stream assessments, technical reports, Section 401/404 permitting, other environmental federal, state or local permit applications, and mitigation requirements. Technical writing experience specifically about authoring siting studies, and/or FERC resource reports, and/or NEPA analysis preferred.
    • Experience in multiple states within the mid-Atlantic and eastern United States (PA, OH, IN, MI, MD, DE, WV and/or NJ preferred)
    • Riparian, Coastal, and Tidal ecosystem and wetland mitigation design and monitoring experience.
    • Siting analysis, including qualitative and quantitative reviews for new or rebuild utility projects.
    • Experience in a fast-paced consulting environment, delivering high-quality technical documentation and permit applications.
    • Safety training (i.e. OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hours, CPR)
    • High degree of self-motivation.
    • Excellent and relevant references.

    Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation (Pennsylvania) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $63,000, - $110,000.
