Job Description
AECOM is seeking an _Entry-Level Geologist _to be based in our Chicago or Lisle, IL office. This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line. This position is expected to begin in May 2023. The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological, and geochemical data in both the field and office settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Understand and assist with developing conceptual site models
Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings
Prepare investigation reports and drawings
Independent field work and leadership of field teams
Contractor oversight
Develop cost estimates associated with field related activities
Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related
Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required
Valid US Driver’s License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Products including Word and Excel
A year or more of relevant experience
40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER training and annual updates preferred
Experience with GIS, Surfer, or groundwater modeling a plus
Experience performing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Ability to understand and supervise advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells
Ability to demonstrate a primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation and remediation projects at various client sites
Possesses technical report writing skills
Attention to detail and desire to complete quality work products
Ability to work well with others and comprehend instruction quickly
Additional Information
Relocation is not available for this position.
Ability to travel approximately 50% to various job sites within the U.S. is required for this role
Candidates may be asked to submit to a Motor Vehicle Record screening, drug test, and/or medical surveillance screening upon hire.
