    Job Description

    AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, highly talented Environmental Scientist / Ecologist, for immediate employment for remote position within PA, WV, OH or surrounding states. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team-oriented environment. This position provides unlimited career growth potential while working with an excellent team comprised of a variety of staff and project managers in support of AECOM’s clients, including natural gas, electric utilities, and renewable energy. AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting group conducts a wide variety of projects including impact assessments, environmental field assessments (i.e. wetland delineations, species surveys, etc.), environmental regulatory permitting, utility siting and licensing, environmental inspection, and many others. The group primarily works on projects in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio, as part of AECOM’s East Mid-Atlantic team.

    There are opportunities to work on large-scale projects or projects further afield than the typical project range if the candidate is interested. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Permitting and Impact assessment lead for federal, state and local permits application preparation and coordination with the clients and reviewing agencies.
    • Managing project tasks according to approved scopes of work and delivering quality reports on schedule and within budget.
    • Coordinating with various governmental agencies (federal/state/local, etc.).
    • Coordinating with internal teams such as cultural resources, T&E species experts, civil engineers and other project support teams.
    • Serving as a technical lead for environmental, biological and other impact assessments.
    • Siting analysis, including qualitative and quantitative reviews.
    • Occasionally assisting with stream, wetland, wildlife habitat assessments and other surveys by supporting junior staff.
    • Ability to work as a team lead or independently.
    • Attending meetings held by client for projects and reporting back to the AECOM project manager.
    • Assisting Senior Staff with business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients.
    • Periodically, work may require extended hours, remotely, night work, and/or overnight travel.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Minimum Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental. Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field.
    • 4+ years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    • The position may require occasional fieldwork, and the candidate must be able to travel (including overnight).
    • Clean driving record and a valid driver’s license is required.
    • US Citizenship required

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 5+ years of consulting experience and client engagement within the natural gas, electric and/or renewables industries.
    • 5+ years of permitting application preparation, supporting data collection and review, and preparation of scientific documents including wetland delineations stream assessments, technical reports, Section 401/404 permitting, other environmental federal, state or local permit applications, and mitigation requirements.
    • Technical writing experience specifically about authoring siting studies, and/or FERC resource reports, and/or NEPA analysis preferred.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills and technical writing.
    • Experience in multiple states within the mid-Atlantic and eastern United States.
    • Transferrable skills and experience with ESRI ArcGIS products or AutoCAD.
    • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment and managing individual and team schedules.
    • Driver’s license with trailer certification; boat transportation/maintenance experience.
    • Safety training (i.e., OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hours)
    • High degree of self-motivation.
    • Ability to lead a field or technical team.

    Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation (NYC locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $93,000.
