    Job Description

    AECOM IS SEEKING A MOTIVATED, TECHNICALLY-EXPERIENCED TEAM LEADER TO SERVE AS MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT MANAGER BASED IN COLUMBUS, OHIO. The ideal candidate will have a passion for leading technically proficient teams, designing creative solutions, mentoring mid-level and junior staff, and achieving technical excellence on exciting and complex projects.

    The Mechanical Department Manager  should be capable of leading and developing teams to complete both small and large projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external clients is required. Candidate must be well organized, be able to demonstrate critical thinking and can quickly recognize issues and be part of the solution.

    As the Mechanical Department Manager, you will be expected to:

    • Be self-motivated with strong work ethic and take pride in your work
    • Serve as a Discipline Leader for our Columbus team
    • Complete HVAC designs for projects of all sizes
    • Make major design recommendations and design decisions with little input from senior staff
    • Plan the design work of the mechanical team and delegate assignments to team members
    • Establish staff ‘s goals and annually review staff and conduct Annual Performance Reviews; recommend salary increases
    • Coordinate designs with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, and electrical
    • Act as an adviser and review documents prepared by mechanical team members; performing technical quality reviews and being responsible for the overall Department quality and profitability
    • Develop fee estimates, assist with proposal preparation, and participate in client presentations
    • Meet with clients and maintain good client relations
    • Stay current with the latest design requirements, techniques, tools, and principles
    • Be a leader in the Columbus office and a contributor to it being a great place to work

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering plus ten (10) years of related design experience
    • Professional Engineer license
    • Driver’s License

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Strong work experience with an emphasis in HVAC systems and knowledge of energy codes and energy-saving applications
    • Experience scoping and drafting fees for engineering components of interdisciplinary project work
    • Experience in strategic management of an engineering group
    • Experience using BIM software to complete and document mechanical design
    • LEED Associate Professional, familiarity with USGBC LEED Accreditation process
