    Job Description

    AECOM has an opening for a Historian in our Honolulu office to assist with a variety of projects. The role will be on-site at the Hawaii Historic Preservation office in Kapolei, HI.

    Job Description

    • Review state and local projects for potential impacts to historic properties in accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) Chapter 6E and federal project in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. This includes identification and inventory of historic properties, evaluation of significance, determination of effects to significant historic properties, development of mitigation commitments, development of mitigation plans, and verification of mitigation compliance.
    • Review construction plans
    • Perform literature reviews and archival research.
    • Survey and inventory buildings and structures in the State of Hawaii on an annual basis to maintain and update the State inventory of historic places.
    • Familiarity with applicable state and federal preservation laws, regulations and standards.
    • Understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act, HRS Chapter 6E, and the Secretary of Interior’s Guidelines Standards for Rehabilitation.
    • Work with federal agencies, professional or lay groups, public officials, and the general public.
    • Negotiate preservation projective measures.
    • Review permits for various city, county, and state agencies.
    • Upload submittals and associated records and correspondence to an online database.
    • Scan and upload final reports to an internal library.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BA/BS in Architectural History, Art History, Historic Preservation or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
    • 2 years of experience within related field

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiar with applicable state and federal preservation laws, regulations and standards.
    • Understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act, HRS Chapter 6E, and the Secretary of Interior’s Guidelines Standards for Rehabilitation.
    • Microsoft Office and GIS

    Compensation

    Exempt Position: The Offered rate of compensation for Honolulu, HI will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $55,000 - 70,000.
