    Job Description

    AECOM has an opening for a Risk Assessor/Toxicologist in our Oakland or Sacramento California office to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation. The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in both the field and office settings.

    The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

    • Performing human health and/or ecological risk assessments in accordance with regulatory guidance and project-specific work plans.
    • Developing Risk Assessment Work Plans and contributing to Quality Assurance Project Plans.
    • Preparing technical deliverables; including writing reports and performing/reviewing risk assessment calculations.
    • Maintaining knowledge of federal and state regulations/guidance documents for conducting risk assessments.
    • Supporting execution of projects involving soil gas, soil, and groundwater investigation, compliance, and remediation activities in accordance with the DTSC Vapor Intrusion Guidance, CERCLA, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, or other regulatory programs.
    • Work under the supervision of a principal risk assessor, but able to work independently and collaboratively with a minimal level of guidance needed for unfamiliar tasks.
    • Ability to work independently with diverse staff in office setting.
    • Assist in mentoring and working with junior staff members with certain aspects of the job and coordinate field and reporting tasks.
    • Must be able to conform to AECOM travel policies, including ability to obtain and hold the AECOM corporate credit card for use in making travel-related purchases .
    • Must demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.

    Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work will be required including oversight of subcontractors.

    Minimum Requirements

    • More than 4 years of experience as a Risk Assessor Scientist/Toxicologist familiar with the California regulatory environment.
    • BA/BS in Toxicology, Biology, Environmental Science or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
    • Valid Driver's license.
    • Ability to travel up to 25% to various job sites within US
    • US Citizen/US Permanent Resident

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Desire for professional development and obtain DABT certification
    • Involved with regulatory negotiations specifically, DTSC’s HERO and the State and Regional Water Boards.
    • Experience overseeing/leading field efforts including the advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells, collect soil gas, soil, and groundwater samples;
    • Ability to demonstrate a primary technical role in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation and remediation projects at various client sites;
    • Understand and assist with development and updating conceptual site models;
    • Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings;
    • Prepare investigation reports and drawings;
    • Possesses technical report writing skills;
    • Independent field work and leadership of field teams;
    • Candidate must be proficient with database management programs such as: EQUIS, SQL and Microsoft Access;
    • Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs; MS Word and MS Excel;
    • Selected candidate will be required to complete 40 hour HAZWOPER training or annual refresher class, if needed;
    • Selected Candidate will be able to receive First Aid/CPR training and AECOM specific training; and
    • Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition; and environmental investigation or remediation.

    Compensation

    Exempt Position: The Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - 90,000.
