    AECOM is seeking an Environmental Planner to be based in Atlanta, Georgia. This position will support a large Design-Build Transportation project in north Metropolitan Atlanta. The work location will be a hybrid of remote and on-site.

    The Transportation Group of AECOM is actively seeking a motivated and highly talented Environmental Planner for immediate employment in the Atlanta, GA office. The candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team assigned to the SR 400 Express Lanes Design-Build project. The SR 400 Express Lanes project will construct express lanes on an approximately 16-mile section of SR 400 in north Metropolitan Atlanta. The selected candidate will perform tasks ranging from fieldwork, research, report writing, quality review of technical reports, data collection, and GIS mapping among

    Responsibilities:

    • Primary responsibilities are to apply expert knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act NEPA) GDOT environmental process and milestone schedule management for the GDOT Plan Development Process.
    • Review and coordination for Section 10/404/401 permits.
    • Program management support, including project management, managing multiple aspects of projects and tasks as well as budgets and staffing, and schedules, and specifically focusing on how the environmental process integrates within the overall project delivery process.
    • Works under supervision of senior staff but can complete all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision.
    • Aligns project deliverables with engineering and project delivery milestones; recommends priorities, schedules and funding sources to implement the project.
    • Assist management with business development activities and mentorship of junior staff.
    • Performs technical approach, quality control, data assessments, report reviews and QA/QC for work prepared by others.
    • Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to public, agencies, clients, and stakeholders; able to communicate information tailored to the end user. Prepares meeting minutes.
    • Prepares NEPA/GEPA documentation in compliance with the GDOT Environmental Procedures Manual and Guidebooks.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, biology, ecology, natural resources, or related field
    • 6 years of experience with Federal regulatory processes, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 404 Permitting
    • Experience and demonstrated ability to work on a wide range of projects, within interdisciplinary teams, and balance a demanding workload
    • Experience with MS Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in environmental planning, biology, ecology, natural resources, or related field
    • Prepares basic data and scientific documents to include figures, technical reports, agency coordination, NEPA documents for authorization by state and federal agencies. Gather data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports of investigations; compile and organize data collected by others for communication to other disciplines, and evaluate documents to assess risks of project deliverables status
    • Experience working with GA state agencies (e.g., GA Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division and Environmental Protection Division) and federal agencies (e.g., Federal Highway Administration and US Army Corps of Engineers) to navigate permitting/regulatory requirements to obtain agency environmental clearances
    • Experience in preparing reports for transportation projects administered by the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
    • Experience with environmental compliance and permitting, including ability to work on complex projects, within interdisciplinary teams, and balance a demanding workload, as well as interface with clients
    • Experience working within an environment with multiple projects, deliverables, schedules and timelines with the ability to manage time and priorities under limited supervision; demonstrated leadership of interdisciplinary teams to meet deadlines and ensure project delivery; customer service oriented with demonstrated client-facing experience
    • Experience in technical/scientific writing skills, including authoring environmental documents, analyzing data and synthesizing for development of conclusions

    The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $80,000 to $112,000.00.
