    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking an experienced GHG & Decarbonization Consultant to be based in any our major West Region offices. The selected candidate will join AECOM’s EHS + Air practice within the Environment Business Line to work with our greenhouse gas (GHG) and decarbonization teams to support our clients with their decarbonization/ESG needs. This is a hybrid role.

    The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and be responsible for the following:

    • Conducting projects in alignment with GHG accounting and reporting standards (voluntary standards such as the GHG Protocol, regulatory standards such as USEPA GHGRP).
    • Managing and serving as the technical lead for Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions inventories, as well as Scope 3 value chain GHG assessments (screening level and detailed quantification).
    • Applying a technical understanding of GHG reduction / decarbonization mechanisms and technologies such as energy efficiency and renewable energy, low carbon technologies, and new emerging technologies such as carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), hydrogen, etc.
    • Developing GHG reduction target-setting approaches, including science-based targets.
    • Developing GHG emission reduction initiatives, defining decarbonization strategies (corporate-wide and field-level), including strategy prioritization based on considerations such as GHG reduction potential, feasibility, and cost/benefit analysis.

    The successful candidate will also have:

    • Demonstrated experience managing clients and supporting ESG and sustainability business development efforts, including preparation of technical and cost proposals, to grow our environmental compliance and sustainability work with existing and new clients.
    • Demonstrated experience managing all aspects of the project from proposal through execution to close, to include financial and contract management (i.e., developing proposals/cost estimates, managing clients, projects, and project teams; coordinating resources and managing subcontractors; etc.).
    • Ability to mentor junior environmental professionals to execute various client projects.
    • Ability to communicate effectively to a wide-variety of audiences, including technical and executive-level.
    • Direct experience in a consulting environment, including client-relationship management.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant environmental and/or STEM-based discipline.
    • 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education with prominent GHG and decarbonization experience in the consulting industry.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Conducting complex GHG inventories (i.e., organizations with many facilities, in many regions, non-traditional emission sources).
    • GHG / decarbonization assessments across a range of industries and / or public sector organizations.
    • Fluency with a wide range of GHG standards (such as the GHG reporting standards examples above, and other standards like the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), GHG offset protocols, or others).
    • Experience with regulatory assessment and compliance.
    • Scope 2 market-based assessment and calculations, including incorporation of renewable energy procurement methods such as off-site PPAs or unbundled RECs.
    • Developing projections of future GHG emissions.
    • Helping an organization develop appropriate and meaningful GHG reduction targets.
    • Development and / or implementation of GHG reduction / decarbonization strategies.
    • Fluency and experience with carbon markets (such as GHG offsets).
    • Fluency with technical areas relevant to many GHG assessments and decarbonization projects, such as renewable energy, transportation infrastructure, construction projects, business structures, community engagement, or other.
    • Fluency with and interest in other areas of sustainability performance (i.e., water, resource management, environmental justice).
    • Familiarity with climate and ESG disclosure frameworks, such as CDP, TCFD, or SASB, for example).

    Additional Information

    • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
    • Offered rate of compensation (Colorado locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $125,000.
