    Job Description

    The AECOM Remediation Practice is seeking an entry-level GIS Specialist to join our team based in one of our New York, New York or Clifton, New Jersey offices. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering professional consulting services to our key clients. This is a hybrid work model requiring 2-3 days per week in the office.

    The successful candidate will join a large established team conducting environmental assessment and remediation projects across New York and New Jersey. This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel, and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team.

    The job responsibilities for the position include, but will not be limited to:

    • Support the GIS element of major projects in a multi-disciplinary environment.
    • Provide consultancy to internal and external clients to understand their needs and provide solutions.
    • Perform multiple tasks concurrently within strict timeframes, scope/budget/schedule expectations, and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
    • Actively interact with multidisciplinary teams.
    • Development and implement GIS Standards and best practices.
    • Provide support and guidance on spatial data management.
    • Design and manage geodatabases.
    • Carry out geoprocessing/analysis tasks.
    • Produce maps/drawings, as well as support webGIS (AGOL/ArcGIS Enterprise/apps) with setting up map viewers and data collection applications & dashboards.
    • Developing and using Esri mobile apps such as Survey123, Field Maps, QuickCapture, and Workforce.
    • Take responsibility for the spatial data review process and the application of quality standards.
    • Potentially coordinate GIS work with other colleagues.
    • Actively support developing digital tools applied to environmental and engineering services.
    • You should be innovative and creative with strong interpersonal communication skills and be comfortable working independently as well as in an interdisciplinary, multi-cultural team.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in GIS/Geospatial services, Geography, Computer Science, or a related technical field with emphasis on Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
    • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.
    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's Degree in GIS/Geospatial Services, Geography, Computer Science, or a related technical field with emphasis on Geographic Information Systems.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently.
    • Able to communicate well with a project team based in multiple locations.
    • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently and develop solutions.
    • Good team player, proactive, strong self-motivation, and willing to learn.
    • Professional competence in GIS, including the following:
      • Compile geographic information from public data sources.
      • Develop and maintain databases, reports, and mapping.
      • Create, organize, manipulate, and retrieve GIS data for reporting, analysis, and presentation purposes.
      • Perform quality assurance of GIS data and associated graphic components.
      • Knowledge of various data types such as CAD, GPS, LiDAR, and flat-file databases and the ability to convert and work with them in a GIS environment.
      • Conduct spatial analysis and spatial operations.
      • Ability to work with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online/Enterprise Portal.
      • Ability to work with CAD and to understand BIM/GIS interfaces, as well as basic programming skills.
    • Additional experience in the following areas will be a strong advantage:
      • Software development experience with using Esri products, preferably ArcGIS REST API, ArcGIS API for JavaScript, and Portal for ArcGIS.
      • Experience in the use of ModelBuilder, ArcPy, and geoprocessing tools as well as developing scripts in Visual Basic, Python, and/or JavaScript to automate tasks would be desirable, but not essential.
      • Engineering or CAD/BIM-related software.
      • Knowledge in applying SQL statements for data manipulations.
      • Processing photogrammetry or point cloud data.
      • Database knowledge (ArcGIS for Server, EQuIS, MS Access, and/or SQL Server).

    Additional Information

    • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
    • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Clifton, NJ. The selected candidate must be available to work in Clifton, NJ on a scheduled basis.
