    Job Description

    AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Hydrogeologist for employment in Arlington, VA or Greenville, SC. AECOM is searching for candidates who are role models, client-focused, impactful, and decisive.

    The Hydrogeologist position will be primarily responsible for supporting AECOM’s Conceptual Site Modeling practice in our Arlington, Virginia office and remedial investigation work for our Federal government clients. The successful candidate will have a BS/BA in Geology or Hydrogeology, with significant coursework and/or practical experience in groundwater modeling using finite difference methods and 4 years of experience within the industry. Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.

    This position requires excellent skills in written and spoken communication, organization, and time management, and an individual who thrives in a team-oriented environment. Coursework and/or experience involving hydrogeology in the preparation of detailed hydrogeologic conceptual site models (CSMs), database compilation and management, and 2D/3D visualizations is desirable. Duties may include compiling and evaluating site-related geological, geophysical, hydrogeologic, and environmental data; working with a team to utilize the available data to develop a detailed hydrogeologic CSM; and developing a numerical groundwater flow and transport model based on the CSM.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology or relevant geological science discipline plus four years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's degree in hydrogeology or other related discipline.
    • 5+ years of experience in environmental consulting or similar industry.
    • Skilled at using geologic/hydrogeologic conceptual site models and data to construct and calibrate 3D numerical groundwater flow and transport models, including:
      • Proficiency using MODFLOW and graphical-user interfaces (e.g., Groundwater Vistas, GMS).
      • Proficiency developing predictive transport scenarios using MT3DMS and/or RT3D.
      • Experience using PEST to setup and run inverse models and Monte Carlo simulations.
      • Preparation of descriptive technical reports of model outputs, including maps, charts, tables, and text.
    • Proficiency in using GIS software (ArcGIS) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Experience analyzing slug and aquifer test data using commercially available software (e.g., Aqtesolv®).
    • Experience with specialized software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Rockworks, Earth Volumetric Studio [EVS]) and building complex databases.
    • Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.
    • Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner. Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.
    • Professional registration or on track to obtain professional registration.
    • Ability to travel for fieldwork and/or meetings. This position may require some travel (several weeks a year) within the United States.
