    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking a talented Transportation Engineer to join a dynamic and highly technical Transportation design team in Birmingham, Alabama. As a Transportation Engineer, you will be working with a multi-disciplinary design team to deliver projects for Alabama cities, counties, and the Alabama Department of Transportation. Projects include design for complex interstate highways, urban and rural roadways, interchanges, design-builds, and bridge replacements. This is a hybrid work option position with opportunity for advancement. Join us!

    Typical duties and Responsibilities:

    • Will serve as a technical advisor.
    • Will function as Task/Design Lead for transportation design projects.
    • Work with clients such as the state, cities and counties of Alabama, in addition to private clients.
    • Prepare engineering plans, construction documents, maps, reports, construction cost estimates and other project related items.
    • Design projects that include public and private road systems, grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, and traffic control plans.
    • Will read, analyze and interpret engineering and construction documents, soil and material reports, and government regulations.
    • Perform drainage and hydraulics calculations.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
    • Perform quality control review of design calculations and drawings.
    • Interact and coordinate with clients, design team partners and sub-consultants as needed for project tasks.
    • Will have the ability to make decisions independently related to engineering design and methodology.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BA/BS plus two years or more of demonstrated equivalency and experience and/or education.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to receive in one year of start.
    • Four years of civil drainage design or related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    • Design experience on roadway projects including freeways, highways, and local street improvements.
    • Experience working on ALDOT projects.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Experience with design software including MicroStation and/or Open Roads.
    • Familiar with MS Office 2010 software (Excel, Word, Project).
