    Job Description

    AECOM IS SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED AND TALENTED INTERMEDIATE TO SENIOR LABORATORY TECHNICAL ARCHITECT TO JOIN OUR BUILDINGS + PLACES (B+P) BUSINESS LINE.

    The successful candidate will have relevant experience in laboratory (including vivarium) design for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, academic, biomedical, or other research institutions. Basic knowledge of Biosafety design criteria as established by CDC pertaining to research and testing laboratory requirements and protocols. This position is to be based in either Columbus or Cleveland, candidate preference dependent.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:  

    • Work directly with AECOM laboratory planners, clients, scientists, researchers, and related end-users to develop laboratory design strategies at all levels of detail including new construction and renovations
    • Offer and support laboratory technical design and detailing decisions that are in line with project goals and understands their impact on cost, construction, sustainability, and other factors
    • Develop and oversee architectural drawings (plans, elevations, sections, details, etc.) and specifications for laboratory space documentation and construction
    • Direct document production in accordance with identified project specific checklists, AECOM standards, and QA/QC standard program
    • Provide or follow verbal and written instructions to revise, develop and produce plans, elevations, and details appropriately
    • Anticipate and develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards
    • Oversee the construction administration of the laboratory spaces and associated systems
    • Lead periodic project design meetings and presentations; ensure client is adequately briefed on project progress
    • Promote firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and sustainability
    • Ability to work collaboratively with teams across multiple AECOM offices

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • BA/BS in architecture or related field + 6 years relevant experience in programming, planning of laboratory and high-technology facilities.
    • Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.
    • Strong Lab Design, Revit and production skills
    • Science & Technology experience essential
    • Licensed as a Registered Architect

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree
    • Ideally experience in the lab design role in an architectural design firm
    • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
    • Related laboratory architectural design experience
    • Working knowledge and skill set to guide discussions for laboratory room/space development in conjunction with equipment and other technical attributes
    • Ability to work with end users to develop process flows, planning process and critical adjacency of research and laboratory rooms for optimum efficiency and flexibility
    • Leadership experience, including managing client expectations, multi-disciplinary team, and meeting scope/schedule/budget
    • Advanced knowledge of the architectural planning and design process, construction documentation, construction administration and code requirements
    • Good sense of humor, and plays well with others
