    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking a **Sustainability & Climate Resilience Consultant **in any of our West Region offices. The selected candidate will join AECOM’s EHS + Air practice within the Environment Business Line to support our clients with their sustainability and climate resilience and adaptation planning needs.

    The successful candidate will support the AECOM’s sustainability and climate resilience practice in areas including, but not limited to: sustainability planning and program development, environmental justice, performance indicator and metrics development, stakeholder engagement, technical support, and task leadership.

    The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and knowledge in the following subjects and be responsible for:

    • Compiling environmental, social, and economic data, organizing information in spreadsheets, software, and other means.
    • Researching climate change adaptation and sustainability topics, including industry, market, and regulatory drivers, as well as stakeholder concerns and incorporate findings into projects and client briefings.
    • An understanding of local, regional, and national policies and guidance related to climate science and climate change planning.
    • Demonstrated knowledge in the climate change arena, including having a solid understanding of the current state of the science including a working knowledge of the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports.
    • Working within the practice and other AECOM discipline groups (e.g., information systems, engineering, planning) to incorporate findings and ensure sustainability is adequately integrated into project delivery.
    • Supporting project teams and network with colleagues

    The successful candidate will also have:

    • Experience in supporting the management and delivery of corporate sustainability- and climate-related proposals and projects.
    • Ability to write concise, clear, and effective narratives in reporting, presentations, and contributions to proposals.
    • Ability to communicate effectively to a wide-variety of audiences, including technical and executive-level.
    • Direct experience in a consulting environment, including client-relationship management.
    • Willingness to be adaptable and flexible in project tasks, showing an ability to take on new tasks or focus areas.
    • Exhibited client awareness and focus and will be expected to grow that skill at AECOM.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant environmental and/or STEM-based discipline.
    • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education of consulting in sustainability/climate change strategy.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • At least 6 years of consulting in sustainability/climate change strategy.
    • Climate strategy development and related services, such as analysis of climate risks and opportunities, and climate adaptation strategies.
    • Climate vulnerability assessments to evaluate climate-related risks to operations, infrastructure, assets, and supply chains.
    • Knowledge of climate resilience and adaptation strategies using both the built environment (i.e., engineered solutions) and natural solutions (i.e., nature-based solutions, biodiversity, etc.).
    • Development of annual corporate sustainability reports.
    • Analysis of sustainability risks, opportunities, and trends for clients, as well as conducting policy/regulatory analysis.
    • Assessment of climate-related risks to client assets and operations including physical, transitional, and reputational risks.
    • Gap analysis and benchmarking of client sustainability programs and performance.
    • Direct experience with one or more greenhouse gas inventory protocol or standard (e.g., USEPA, local regulators, WRI/ WBCSD, ISO, industry recognized standards not listed can be considered)
    • Direct experience with one or more reporting and disclosure guidelines or standards (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD, IFRS, CDP, SBTi, etc.)
    • Experience across a variety of sectors and industries.
    • Demonstrated experience supporting business development efforts, including preparation of technical and cost proposals, to grow our climate resilience work with existing and new clients.
    • Knowledge of key climate risks across the West region (Ohio to California) and associated adaptation strategies.
    • Supporting the development of socio-economic baselines, social impact assessments, human rights impact assessment, and Environmental Justice screenings and reports.
    • Supporting the coordination and facilitation of public and community consultation programs involving stakeholder outreach with impacted communities, landowners, general public, elected officials, media, and advocacy groups at all levels.
