Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry Level Environmental Scientist/Geologist for employment within our DCS - Environmental Remediation Practices group in the Grand Junction, Colorado office to support our remediation projects. The ideal candidate will be willing and able to learn new skills and methods on challenging field and office assignments in a collaborative team environment.

Candidate will gain experience in their discipline through learning on the job and participating in development opportunities enabling professional growth. Candidate will complete field tasks, including site investigations, drilling oversight, environmental media sample collection, remediation system data collection, and related work. The candidate will also provide office support for data management, report preparation, and maintain the required AECOM-related documentation and forms.

This position is expected to begin in Spring 2024.

Tasks will include:

• Conducting environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil logging; and fluid level gauging.
• Oversight of contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
• Participation in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training.
• Field document preparation, field data collection, processing, and interpretation.
• Supporting office tasks, including data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintenance of a records archive system.
• Collect and record data and compare results to relevant studies and state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
• Revegetation activities at mine reclamation sites.
• Travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
• As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

Preferred Qualifications

• HAZWOPER 40-Hr Certification.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated off-road driving capabilities in various terrains and conditions.
• Understanding and familiarity with Geographic Information Systems.
• Understanding of and ability to utilize Global Positioning Systems.
• Ability to use maps and textual details for spatial orientation while conducting field activities.
• Frequent lifting of 35-40 lbs. of equipment (hand tools, instruments) in and out of transportation vehicle, without assistance.
• Tolerance for working in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions.
• Ability to maneuver safely across uneven terrain, both on foot and in off-highway vehicles.

• Travel of 10% is required for this position.
• Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.
