    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist to be based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

    The successful candidate will help water and wastewater utilities become more resilient and better prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies. Projects may include conducting risk and resilience assessments, risk mitigation planning, supply chain risk management, business continuity planning, emergency response planning, training, and exercises. The candidate will use their academic training to develop solutions to help water and wastewater utilities reliably perform their critical mission. The candidate will receive on-the-job training from senior professionals with more than 20 years of experience in this field and will be periodically sent to external training courses to continually add new skills that will help them advance in their careers.

    This position is expected to begin in September 2023.

    The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Support project teams to conduct assessments, gather field data, and prepare technical reports
    • Interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare assessment findings to industry best practices and local, state, and federal regulations
    • Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems
    • Support workshops, presentations, and training exercises for clients and stakeholders
    • Stay up to date on risk and resilience industry best practices
    • Travel on business periodically for up to one week at a time
    • Position will involve occasional field work.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or relevant science discipline.
    • Due to the nature of work, U.S. citizenship is required
    • A valid driver’s license is required and the ability to pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Coursework or experience with water chemistry
    • Coursework or experience with source water protection planning
    • Experience with America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018 compliance
    • Training in the National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System (NIMS/ICS)
    • Coursework or experience with water and/or wastewater systems and water resources
    • Coursework or experience with water and/or wastewater environmental regulations
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Maps, and other common business software and web-based applications
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • The ability to work collaboratively in teams and independently when necessary
