    Job Description

    AECOM is actively seeking a driven, attentive Bridge Design Engineer and Construction Engineering Representative for immediate employment in Tennessee (AECOM’s East Region) to join AECOM’s Bridge Design Team and Class I Railroad Team.
    This individual may report out of any of the AECOM offices within Tennessee but is preferably located in the eastern portion of the state. A significant portion of the individual’s role will be supporting AECOM’s Class I Railroad Team on projects throughout Tennessee and potentially the surrounding states.

    This individual also will support the Bridge Design Teams based out of Atlanta, GA and Franklin, Tennessee. The appropriately qualified applicant shall demonstrate experience in engineering design and either construction inspection or project management. Experience with Class I Railroads is preferred but not required.

    Responsibilities are but are not limited to:

    • Conducting field work as part of AECOM’s Freight Railroad Contract(s), which has a well-defined scope.
    • Working with task leaders to deliver our scope of services to the Railroad client throughout the construction phase of Public Improvements Projects from project kickoff through project closeout.
    • Coordinating with Public Improvement project sponsors, contractors, and client personnel to help deliver our scope of services to the Railroad client.
    • Monitoring operations conducted by outside parties and their contractors for conformance with Railroad requirements and approved contractor means and methods.
    • Maintaining accurate project records and being accountable for successful and timely delivery of project documentation (i.e., field reports and meeting minutes) while upholding the highest quality standards of AECOM and the Railroad client.
    • Assisting task leaders with managing of the engineering, administration, and financial tasks for a current General Engineering Contract (GEC) with the Railroad.
    • Building analytic and design skills
    • Conducting engineering design.
    • Working on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
    • Creating designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
    • Collecting and analyzing data.
    • Using computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
    • Performing work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
    • Interacting with a multi-disciplinary team comprised of track, structures, geotechnical, signals, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and civil engineers, and scientists.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • BA/BS in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering or related field plus 2 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's motor vehicle records review.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred.
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the freight rail industry with Public Improvement Projects is preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Mathcad, MicroStation or AutoCAD software and be familiar with at least one structural analysis software package.
    • Basic knowledge of some industry-standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as LEAP, MicroStation, Mathcad, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models)
    • Some working familiarity with GDOT and/or TDOT is preferred.
    • Candidate should be detail oriented and should have strong skills in structural analysis, steel, and concrete design; and the ability to work in a team environment.
    • Passed FE Exam, or able to obtain FE within 1 year of hire.
    • Willingness to travel (when required).
    • Previous intern/coop/work experience in bridge design is preferred.
    • Successful completion of the National Highway Institute (NHI) Safety Inspection of In-service Bridges training course is preferred.
