    Job Description

    AECOM IS SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED AND TALENTED INTERMEDIATE TO SENIOR ARCHITECTURAL LABORATORY PLANNER WITH RELEVANT EXPERIENCE IN LABORATORY (INCLUDING VIVARIUM) PROGRAMMING, PLANNING AND DESIGN FOR THE BIOTECHNOLOGY, PHARMACEUTICAL, ACADEMIC, BIOMEDICAL, OR OTHER RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS.

    Detailed knowledge of Biosafety Laboratory Criteria as established by CDC for  biosafety level designations and relationship to specialized laboratory equipment and laboratory protocols. This position is to be based in either Columbus or Cleveland.   RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Work directly with clients, scientists, researchers, and related end-users to develop creative laboratory planning strategies at all levels of detail including new construction and renovations
    • Develop advanced technical knowledge in the laboratory planning and programming of various-sized pharmaceutical, academic research, biotech, and emerging science and engineering building typologies
    • Lead the planning, including supervision of planning teams, for laboratory facilities in all phases including programming, design, fit-out planning, equipment planning, casework planning.
    • Develop a comprehensive understanding of clients' science and engineering program requirements, standards and, policies for completion
    • Lead development of project scope, plan, and services and during the contract process
    • Lead development, modification, and/or review of laboratory planning concepts and solutions
    • Translate planning concepts into comprehensible terms for clients, designers, and project team members
    • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with existing and potential clients
    • Participate in selected marketing and business development opportunities
    • Provide strategy (leveraging existing connections), thought leadership (technical writing) and storytelling (project approach) during proposal phase to help win work.
    • Actively seek new knowledge in the design and planning of laboratories within technical facilities
    • Mentor and direct the work of less experienced staff to develop best practices
    • Actively participate in industry associations to ensure visibility
    • Lead the client in programming sessions defining the facility needs
    • Provide guidance to project managers, architects, and project engineers to establish overall project budgets and milestone schedules
    • Participate actively in the firm-wide Science + Technology practice market sector team and help develop yearly strategic business plans and budget
    • Detail-oriented, methodical, meticulous, process-oriented, yet open to change and motivated by innovation

    • BA/BS in architecture or related field + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
