    Job Description

    AECOM is actively seeking an Outdoor Recreation Planner (NEPA Compliance) to join our Environmental Planning Group. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to join our interdisciplinary team to support National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, state-level equivalent reviews, and environmental permitting by writing technical assessments of impacts on the social, natural, and physical environment; interfacing with clients and other technical experts; supporting public outreach efforts; and contributing to a positive teamwork-oriented company culture. Your experience planning for recreation, land use, and wilderness areas will be put to good use in this largely office-based role, although travel to public lands and project areas around the west and across the United States may be required depending on client and/or project needs.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise in the social, environmental, or physical sciences and experience in contributing to complex environmental studies for land use planning and environmental management. This position requires excellent communication, technical, and writing skills; attention to detail; and the ability to work independently and as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Opportunities for growth include development of client relationships, marketing and business development, and leading interdisciplinary teams on diverse projects.

    Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

    • Participates in and/or manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews.
    • Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments and implementation level planning.
    • Conducts research and prepares statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues.
    • Provides professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land use and transportation projects.
    • Develops plans, studies and analyses on a regional basis.
    • Works in regional program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management, and others.
    • Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.
    • Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to staff with advisory boards and elected officials.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental policy, planning, economics, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 8+ years of relevant experience with NEPA compliance; outdoor recreational planning; or environmental permitting and technical report writing
    • Knowledge of federal environmental laws and their implementing regulations, including, but not limited to: National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act
    • Knowledge of current issues and projects related to the Bureau of Land Management, Reclamation, Forest Service, and other federally administered lands
    • Excellent organization and time-management
    • Experience planning for or managing recreation, land use, or wilderness areas

    Additional Information

    • Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation in Colorado will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $72,000 – $90,000.
