    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking an experienced and motivated Energy / Sustainability Engineer to join our High-Performance Buildings and Communities team.

    This multi-disciplinary team provides design leadership and consulting to clients striving to deliver sustainable and resilient buildings and communities. Projects range from the design of net zero buildings to the development of city-wide or campus level decarbonization plans. We’re passionate about driving the essential transformation of the built environment to deliver a more sustainable and equitable future.

    The Energy / Sustainability Engineer can be located any of our offices in San Francisco, CA ; Orange, CA ;  Los Angeles, CA ; or Denver, CO.   Remote options are also available.

    JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Energy / Sustainability Engineer's role is to apply technical expertise of building and infrastructure systems at a campus / community scale to develop practicable, pragmatic strategies to meet energy, GHG, and resilience goals. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

    • Development of community- and portfolio-level energy strategies, considering, among other things: energy conservation, building electrification. onsite energy generation and storage, district energy, microgrids, infrastructure resilience, and monitoring and control systems. 
    • Technical assessment of building/campus energy demand and potential supply strategies using a combination of modeling, proprietary software, and the development of customized analysis tools.
    • Preparing and presenting results and recommendations, in report or presentation format, to clients and design teams.

    The Energy / Sustainability Engineer will have a technical background such as mechanical, electrical, energy, civil engineering, building science, architecture, or similar. The ideal candidate will have professional experience in the building or energy sector and an understanding of performance-based design principals at a building and/or campus level. The candidate will need to be a team player who can work with others in a multi-disciplinary team to undertake technical analysis and produce reports under tight deadlines. The ability to develop and communicate ideas clearly will be seen as a significant strength in any potential candidate.

    MUST HAVE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE (INCLUDING ANY REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS):

    • Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Building Sciences or a related field
    • 2+ years' experience working in the energy or sustainable design sector
    • Additional applicable certifications/licenses e.g. PE, CEM, LEED AP, ENV SP

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Masters' degree preferred in engineering, planning, or sustainability-related field
    • Experience in the assessment of distributed generation assets (solar PV, battery energy storage, etc.)
    • Excellent written, graphical, and verbal communication skills
    • Strong problem solving, analytical and research skills
    • Ability to balance various project and company responsibilities and deadlines, while maintaining professionalism and quality
    • Adaptable and flexible, showing a willingness and ability to take on new projects or areas with or without supervision, as required
    • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, and in particular, Excel for data analytics.
    • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time

The salary range for this position is $58,000 - $80,000.
