    Job Description

    AECOM is seeking an experienced PROJECT BIOLOGIST or Natural Resources-focused professional to join our interdisciplinary team and support our work with clients in the federal, transportation, energy, and water sectors. This is an exciting opportunity to work on some of the region's most important and interesting projects. This person will join an established natural resource consultancy practice, which includes experts in wildlife, botany, vegetation ecology, restoration, fisheries, and climate adaptation. Joining the team means ongoing opportunities to diversify your expertise, learn from others, and continue to grow as a professional biologist. The position will be based in our Seattle, Washington office.

    Primary duties include preparing Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) compliance documentation and environmental permitting applications; conducting biological surveys; and related electronic data collection. Experience conducting general surveys for avian (including nests), mammal, fish, and invertebrate species, and/or experience conducting wildlife habitat and vegetation characterization and mapping is desired.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

    • Perform assignments that require background in wildlife and aquatic ecology and/or other ecological processes.
    • Conduct writing assignments, including completing survey reports, Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, MMPA compliance documents (IHA, LOA), and/or EIS/EA sections.
    • Conduct biological survey fieldwork in a variety of Pacific Northwest environments, which can include multiple days of travel and/or working in rugged terrain and inclement weather.
    • Utilize electronic data collection methods (including GPS) and manage data, as needed.
    • Support proposal efforts.
    • Work under supervision of a senior project manager or senior-level team member.
    • The ability to work independently and as part of a team; be innovative and a problem solver.
    • Ensure assigned tasks stay on schedule and budget.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in biology, botany, natural resources, wildlife, fisheries science, or related field
    • 4 years of relevant work experience in habitat assessment, biological surveys, and/or related biological studies
    • Valid U.S. Driver License
    • Strong background in terrestrial and aquatic biology, field experience with special status species of Pacific Northwest, and knowledge of regulatory requirements.
    • Travel with limited advanced notice may be required.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience and understanding of Endangered Species Act, Magnuson-Stevens Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Act, and other regulatory processes.
    • 6+ years of relevant work experience in habitat assessment, biological surveys, and/or related biological studies
    • Experience obtaining permits and working with regulatory agencies, such as the  USFWS, NMFS, USACE, and WDFW.
    • Marine mammal field experience.
    • Familiarity with GIS computer programs.
    • Experience with field data collection tools such as Collector, Trimble units, and others.
    • Positive attitude; adaptability to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment
    • Highly organized with a strong detail-oriented work style
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • The candidate will conduct fieldwork and prepare technical reports while interacting with coworkers, clients, and regulatory agency staff.

    Additional Information

    • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
    • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $63,000.00 - $110,000.00
