    The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), founded in 1908, is a professional association of more than 60,000 chemical engineers worldwide. AIChE fosters and disseminates chemical engineering knowledge, supports the professional and personal growth of its members, and applies the expertise of its members to address societal needs and improve the quality of life.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    AIChE is seeking a highly skilled Instructional Designer to join our Education and Work Force Development team. We are seeking someone to join our team who is inquisitive, a systems thinker, and has experience working on multiple projects with several stakeholders at the same time to revise and create innovative learning experiences such as elearning modules, case studies, and microlearning content.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Works with key stakeholders and Education team to define scope of learning experiences, clarify learning objectives, and identify subject-matter experts, timeline and projected outcomes.
    • Designs and develops learning solutions, leveraging tested instructional design theories, practices and methods to create learning activities that are engaging, activity-based, and results-oriented.
    • Creates solutions that satisfy the needs of a diverse set of learners (eLeaning, webinars, videos, quick reference guides, etc.)
    • Implements tools to track the results of learning experiences (i.e. assessments, quizzes, rubrics, evaluation strategies). Makes recommendations based on these measurements to improve quality of training programs.
    • Update and refresh legacy courses into a more engaging, micro learning, dynamic format
    • Works with experts to determine what is to be learned
    • Ensures content matches established objectives
    • Reshapes content for changing needs
    • Structures content and activities for optimizing learning
    • Collaborates with internal departments (Academy, marketing, web, IT, Customer Service, sales) to ensure completion of milestones
    • Supports the technical implementation of learning technologies (LMS, SCORMcloud, Articulate, etc.)
    • Ensures educational content quality and the alignment of content to established learning objectives

    EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related field
    • 3-5 experience in developing online learning for professional development organizations, corporate learning, continuing education or university environments. Ability to leverage career maps and curriculum plans in design
    • Knowledge of best practices in adult learning and instructional design (ADDIE, Gagne, Bloom’s Taxonomy, etc.)
    • Ability to convert technical or complex information into easily used and understandable text and graphics
    • Experience with e-learning authoring tools (i.e. Articulate, Webex etc.) and a Learning Management System (Cornerstone, Docebo, Adobe Captivate Prime, etc.)
    • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
    • Strong listening skills, attention to detail, and decision-making skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel
    • Proven experience in with instructional design with 3-5 years of relevant work experience required; 5-7 years a plus
    • Working knowledge of learning theories in instructional design, principles of pedagogy, adult learning theories, and emerging education technologies
    • Familiarity with eLearning platforms, standards, and practices
    • Experience in project management with demonstrated ability to plan timelines, implement projects and complete milestones
    • Able to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines
    • Excellent organizational and planning skills; strong attention to detail
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully within a highly collaborative environment
    • Demonstrated experience working with volunteers, faculty, and senior management
    • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and tackle challenges and opportunities not previously mentioned
