(Senior) R&D Lab Technician

We are currently seeking a highly motivated (Senior) R&D Technician whose primary role is to support the ongoing efforts towards the development of new products, processes, and solutions in the biotech space. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a high level of motivation, an initiative-taker mentality, an innovation mindset, and an agile & can-do attitude. This position will be based in our Westborough, MA site reporting directly to the Senior Engineer. The primary role will involve supporting the scale-up efforts of bench processes through successful execution at the pilot scale. In addition, this engineer will be responsible for maintaining all the equipment on site.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities for this mechanical engineer position include but are not limited to:
Work with a diverse team of scientists and engineers to assist formulation, process, scale-up optimization efforts.
Assist formulation, conduct membrane casting both on benchtop and pilot caster with minimal supervision.
Operate laboratory equipment to conduct analytical characterization and performance testing for membranes and related samples/products.
Able to interpret and analyze testing data and present/ report research results in a timely manner.
Assist team members with materials development, process design and development.
Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
Maintain both benchtop and pilot equipment to ensure use-readiness.
Conduct risk and hazard assessments and ensure the safe operation of the set-ups.
Troubleshoot and resolve process issues and deviations.
Devise written procedures for the safe operation of the set-ups and best practices via establishing SOPs.
Qualifications and Skills
Industrial experience in web converting, especially in the coating of continuous polymeric films/membrane required. Experience in the design and manufacturing of web converting machines is preferred.
Experience with membrane related analytical techniques.
Practical process and equipment knowledge of multiple coating methods (slot die, KOR, etc.), flexible web handling, coating optimization (e.g., dies, air flow control, solution delivery, etc.), and drying process is a plus.
Practical knowledge in the construction and design of fluid handling skid including mixing equipment is a plus.
Strong team player and effective communication competency required.
Flexibility to adapt to changes in lab operations, priorities, or schedules required.
Currently authorized to work in the United States.
Schedule, Travel, Compensation
· Travel for this role is expected to be < 10% .
· Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
