    JOB DESCRIPTION

    This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient fleet of vehicles including heavy equipment, ready-mix, semi-trucks, and non-DOT vehicles, to support the business. Ensure proper use and care of physical assets, help prevent equipment failures, control costs, manage external vendor relationships, work closely with mechanics, and perform regular equipment and facility audits. This position manages a team of mechanics within the department.

    The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor fleet vehicle equipment maintenance. To do this, the incumbent schedules Preventative Maintenance Inspections and review the results. Monitor necessary repairs and perform vehicle audits to ensure mechanics adhere to safety, regulatory and appearance standards. This position analyzes equipment or vehicle system failures to determine root causes and resolve problems in a timely manner. Plan and coordinate equipment repairs with internal/external groups (e.g., dispatch, drivers, vendors, etc.). Another major area of responsibility is to maintain automotive cost effectiveness. Duties include reviewing equipment failures and component replacements to identify trends, and monitoring key expense indexes (e.g., fuel, replacement parts, tires, labor hours, equipment, etc.) to identify/implement cost-saving strategies. The appointee also supports automotive safety and regulatory compliance by conducting facility audits, following up on issues, coordinating safety and regulatory training. Vendor related duties include verifying external-vendor repairs, preparing repair orders/estimates, and performing on-site vendor inspections.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Coordinate the purchase and/or leasing of all field equipment needs (MHE and FDE) to the specification of operations in each branch.

    Oversee and manage the entire process from identification of need through financial approval/justification to PO creation and vendor delivery.

    Oversee equipment repairs and builds labor relations with employees.

    Work with corporate procurement to obtain all necessary equipment at the lowest cost.

    Ensure adequate inventory levels (e.g., parts, tires, etc.) to support business processes.

    Responsible for updating and maintaining an accurate inventory of all FDE and MHE in the division at all branches (owned and leased).

    Manage all spot needs for rental equipment to handle peak seasonal demand.

    Work with other groups to prevent, identify and resolve equipment and service problems.

    Ensure equipment is insured, registered, and otherwise brought into compliance with all City, State, and Federal regulations.

    Display knowledge of mechanical fundamentals, maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs to vehicle fleet operation.

    Manage inspections of buildings, grounds, equipment, supplies, compliance documents to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, prolonged service life, and appearance.

    Accountable for accuracy of all invoiced vendor equipment charges.

    Is actively auditing and reviewing with vendors.

    Control costs through inventory and asset management, while working with the branches.

    Ensure preventative maintenance programs are in place for all equipment.

    Track all sold/junked assets and manages these out of the company through the end-of-life cycle.

    Monitor progress of area’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) actual vs. target on a monthly basis.

    Submit monthly progress reports on inventory and cost control initiatives.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Business, Transportation or Logistics

    5+ logistics equipment management experience.

    Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); and other applications as required.

    Understanding of complex strategic labor, financial, operating, quality, safety and asset processes and related metrics advanced required.

    Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and fit for duty test.

    Be able to maintain good attendance daily.

    Must have flexibility in work hours.
