JOB DESCRIPTION
The Ready-Mix Batch Plant Operator is responsible for managing the flow of scheduled orders and trucking logistics for a shipping area within a central dispatch environment for a portable ready-mix concrete company.
REQUIREMENTS
Batch Concrete:
Calibrate portable batch plant (daily).
Fill aggregate hoppers, refill as needed.
Schedule filling aggregate bunkers and cement silo.
Keep the area around portable batch plant clean.
Maintain batch plant (grease bearings, replace conveyor belts).
Quality Control:
Take moisture samples.
Calculate water/cement ratio and know the capability of our mixes.
Take test cylinders of concrete.
Break test cylinders.
Keep records of all testing and batch tickets.
Know the admixtures we use and what their capabilities are.
Look for ways to improve and promote quality.
Apply feedback to improve performance.
Able and willing to work overtime as needed.
This position is expected to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and fit for duty test.
Be able to maintain good attendance daily.
Must have flexibility in work hours.
A minimum of 5 years concrete batching experience in ready mix or concrete paving and/or technical training or related experience.
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of concrete batching technology, equipment, methods, and safety is required.
Candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
ACI concrete field-testing technician grade 1 preferred.
ACI concrete strength testing technician preferred.
Must be willing to work 80+ hours a week, nights, and weekends during summer operations.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend from trunk, crawl, kneel, push, and pull objects.
Demonstrate neck range of motion within normal limits (flexion and extension 60°, lateral flexion 40° and rotation 70°).
Lift objects of various dimensions and weights. Up to 70 pounds.
Ability to operate hand controls with both hands.
Ability to operate foot pedals with both feet.
Ability to perform sustained overhead reaching.
Ability to use vibration tools.
Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather.
Ability to work in areas with the potential for high noise levels.
Ability to tolerate working at heights up to 9 feet.
Regular and predictable attendance. Able to work various times during day, night, or weekend hours, at various locations. Able to work overtime on a regular basis.
