  • Responsibilities

    Overview:

    Works in coordination with and under direction of the Chairman or a Chairman-designated Board Member on all policy, plans, legal and communication matters. Directs the execution of the vision, strategic planning, financial management, fundraising, and grantmaking operations that support the overall objectives of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia (The League).

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Implement policies and plans as adopted by the Board of Directors.

    Ensures all activities comply with applicable laws, reporting requirements and regulations.

    Coordinates routine matters with League officials, Veteran organizations, POW/MIA groups, and US Government staff-level officials; attends Quarterly Board meetings, DPAA and other USG briefings and functions as requested by the Chair.

    Builds and maintains strategic partnerships and lasting relationships with executives to secure and grow annual funds through fundraising that requires constant engagement and visibility within the surrounding communities in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

    Engage new and current relationships with partners through personalized engagement strategies, demonstrating the impact of their support to include donor acquisition, prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to increase revenues.

    When possible and when deemed worthy of expenses involved, represent the League in response to invitations from foreign and domestic officials at all levels: Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), educational institutions, and active duty and reserve military officials.

    Requests meetings with leaders at national, international, and regional levels.

    Serves as Deputy Chairman of all League annual meetings and oversee the League Administrator’s arrangements and organization of annual meeting logistics and all meetings of the Board of Directors, in-person and virtual, coordinating in advance with the Chairman.

    Oversees the work of the League Administrator and Staff to ensure daily incoming communications (calls/mail/emails) are responded to in a substantive, useful and timely manner.

    Serves as senior League official responsible for content of information posted on the League website, Facebook page, Instagram, and Twitter.

    Oversees coordination on routine matters by the League Administrator with League Officials and Coordinators, VSOs, POW/MIA Groups & NGOs, and Congressional and Executive Branch staff-level officials.

    Oversees standard financial transactions and requirements, with coordination and oversight by the Finance/Audit Committee, as appointed by the Chairman of the Board and in accordance with League bylaws.

    Regularly updates issue-related information and commentary posted on the League’s website to ensure the most current, accurate information is provided to all League members and the public. Significant changes should be provided to the Chairman of the Board for coordination, addition of policy perspective and subsequent publication by hard copy and electronic distribution.

    In collaboration with other members of the team, manage the operations of partnerships to ensure all deliverables are managed effectively.

    Review development revenue goals and analyze budget reports on fundraising; recommend changes and adapt as necessary.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, Public Administration, History, or Political Science.

    Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar role.

    Must have strong interpersonal relations skills and excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to work well with individuals across all organizational levels.

    Must have a good understanding of military practices and culture.

    Must demonstrate some understanding/knowledge of nonprofit best practices and culture.

    PREFERRED

    Retired enlisted E7 or above
