  • Responsibilities

    General Function: The Individualized Program Specialist (IPS) works with participants to develop person-centered plans and strategies to achieve their overall goals. With each participant, the IPS considers the whole person and works with the resources outside of ARCO (medical, physical therapy, psychology, nutrition, etc.) as well as the ARCO support team (Service Plan Coordination, Team Manager, Program Director, Direct Support Staff, Job Customization, etc.) to do so. The IPS crafts a plan that integrates the input of these various disciplines and life activities into an overall support system that includes instructions for staff to carry out the plan successfully. The IPS teaches staff how to implement the plan, monitors the success of participant achievement of the plan, and makes modifications as needed. Training of staff for the individual plans primarily occurs on location (home or community) with the participant and staff. This employee seeks input and training by his or her fellow team members on unfamiliar subject matter and integrates this knowledge into the larger picture of supporting a whole person. Examples of supports delivered by this professional include: • Evaluating aberrant behaviors that prevent an individual from achieving social integration, working with a psychologist in designing and instructing staff/family on a behavior management program, monitoring its success, and making needed changes. • Receiving instructions from a physical therapist on the most effective methods of handling and positioning or equipment use for a person with physical disabilities so that they can have the most optimal use of their bodies and designing methods for implementing these in daily life, and teaching staff how to do these things, and monitoring for effectiveness. • Arranging for a nutritionist to provide menus and recipes for a person with diabetes and then teaching staff to shop and cook accordingly. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in human service field. • Ability to assess, instruct, and support social, health/nutrition, physical, psychological, safety and community resource needs of participants or to work with other professionals to achieve this. • Ability to individualize instructional strategies for team members and support staff based on holistic assessments of goals and needs of participants. • Ability to carry out and craft plans around specific orders and directions of other professional personnel (medical, social, psychological, physical, etc.) • Ability to use a computer or tablet for communication. • Available to work flexible days/hours. • Valid driver’s license, ability to drive car or van, and dependable transportation on the job.
