    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Summary

    The employee will have a strong knowledge of laboratory concepts, practices, procedures and instrumentation and will perform tests commensurate with skill level with minimal supervision. 

    Essential Functions

    1. Notifies appropriate personnel when reagents and standards must be ordered in sufficient time to meet testing due date requirements.
    2. Prepares solutions as needed for the general use of all laboratory personnel.
    3. Performs all testing not requiring proficiency testing.
    4. Maintains proficiency for testing of IR, UV and either HPLC or GC techniques.
    5. Provides proper documentation for all testing performed.
    6. Provides peer review of laboratory notebooks.
    7. Mentors new employees and assists in training of testing techniques for both entry and mid-level employees.
    8. Maintains work list such that samples are tested within completion requirements.
    9. Assists in investigations of OOS sample testing.
    10. Performs monthly, annual and bi-annual instrument validations as necessary.
    11. Assists with R&D projects and USP reference standard samples as assigned.
    12. May be required to assist the supervisor in reviewing sample testing write-ups.
    13. May be required to assist the supervisor in writing process and work instruction documents.
    14. May be required to assist in outsourcing samples to appropriate vendors.
    15. May be required to assist in ordering of reagents and supplies as needed.
    16. Ability to wear, maintain, and properly use appropriate safety equipment, including, but not limited to eye protection, gloves, and lab coat.
    17. Adherence to all ARL Bio Pharma safety standards, policies, procedures, and protocols

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a laboratory environment.  Attendance at the office is required.

    While performing the duties of the job the employee is frequently exposed to toxic or hazardous chemicals.  The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to eye protection, gloves, and lab coat.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

    This is a safety sensitive position as defined by state and federal laws that will require working with hazardous materials and/or handling medicine. As a "safety sensitive" classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.

    Physical Demands

    This position often requires standing for prolong periods of time; dexterity in fingers and hands to perform complex and precise manipulations; ability to walk and stood; ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs; see in the normal visual range including the ability to distinguish colors and shades and hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position.

    Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Travel

    No travel is required for this position.

     Required Education and Experience

    1. An AS in chemistry or related science with 4+ years industrial experience OR
    2. A BS in chemistry or related science with 2+ years industrial experience OR
    3. PhD in chemistry or related science with 0-2 years industrial experience

    Preferred Education and Experience

    1. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related science field with 2+ years’ experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
