    PART-TIME ART INTERNSHIP: ART RECOVERY TECHNOLOGIES (ART) OF JACKSONVILLE, DAYTONA BEACH, GAINESVILLE & OCALA

    INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

    ART of Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Gainesville & Ocala is a disaster response company, specializing in the restoration of artwork for private residences and commercial sites throughout Northeast Florida and Southern Georgia. We are currently seeking a part-time (10-15 hrs/wk) ART Intern to work under our Lead Art Restorer at our Jacksonville warehouse and assist with a wide range of restoration tasks. This on-site opportunity is open to any student pursuing a degree in Visual Arts or a related field, with a focus in Photography, Painting, and/or Sculpture, and will offer the chance to gain hands-on experience in custom framing, art handling, and art restoration.Compensation is $10/hour and we would be willing to work with the intern to help them get college credit.

    RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

    CUSTOM FRAMING & ART HANDLING:

    Measuring and cutting glass, matboard, and foamcore to size

    Matching or replicating existing custom frame design

    Cutting and assembling window mats, liners, fillets, and spacers

    Conservation hinging, mounting, and frame fitting

    Cleaning, restoration, and repair of metal, mdf, wood, and gilded frames

    Retouching frame finishes with wax, varnish, pigments, staining, and gold leaf

    Archival packing and crating of framed and unframed art

    Loading, unloading and transporting art to and from sites across Northeast Florida

    ART RESTORATION:

    Surface cleaning and restoration of oil and acrylic paintings, including varnish removal, consolidation, infilling and in-painting

    Re-stretching and relining canvases

    Cleaning and touch-up of sculptures and collectibles, including staining, polishing, and varnishing

    Filling chips and cracks in wood, ceramic, plaster, and metal; touch-up of missing pigment

    Dry surface cleaning, spotting, and touch-up of works on paper and photo prints

    Flattening and cleaning works on paper using humidification chambers, water baths, and bleach baths

    Making high-resolution scans of photographs and prints

    Inkjet photo printing with color matching on a range of papers and canvas

    Digital restoration of images in Photoshop (resizing, dust and scratch removal, color correction)

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    We are seeking a current student pursing a degree in Visual Arts or a related field, who has a background in at least one of the following three areas (please specify which in your application):

    PHOTOGRAPHY, including a familiarity with digital file formats, dpi/ppi, photo scanning, inkjet printing, color management, nondestructive Photoshop editing, and proper handling of antique/historic photographs

    PAINTING: Familiarity with oil, acrylic, gouache, gesso, varnishes, color matching; and canvas stretching

    SCULPTURE: Familiarity with wood, ceramic, plaster, metal, textiles, fillers and hardeners, staining, polishing, and varnishing
