    AS9100D Quality Systems Manager (AS9100D Implementation & Audit Readiness)

     

    Smith & Company is an ISO 9001–certified, engineering-first precision machine shop supporting aerospace and defense programs. We’re ready to step up to AS9100D and we’re looking for a leader to design, implement, and harden the system—then take us confidently through certification. This is not a caretaker role. This is a build-and-lead role with real authority and executive backing.

    Mission of the Role Design and deploy a practical, audit-ready AS9100D Quality Management System that integrates with how the shop actually runs—engineering, NPI, production, suppliers, and customers—then lead the company through successful certification and ongoing compliance.

    Key Responsibilities (Aligned to AS9100D)

    • AS9100D System Development & Deployment 

    Lead the transition from ISO 9001 to AS9100D

     Develop the full QMS architecture: policies, procedures, process maps, records 

    Close gaps against AS9100D clauses, with emphasis on risk, configuration control, and product safety

    Audit Readiness & Execution 

    Plan and execute internal audits to AS9100D 

    Prepare and lead Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits o Serve as primary interface with registrars and customer auditors 

    Drive corrective actions to closure—no paper fixes

    Operational Integration 

    Embed quality into NPI, first articles (AS9102), change control, and production 

    Partner with engineering and the shop floor to ensure procedures match reality 

    Establish effective control of nonconforming product, RCCA, and CAPA

    • AS9100D Focus Areas (Must-Have) 

    Risk-based thinking (Clause 6) 

    Configuration management (Clause 8.1.2) 

    Product safety (Clause 8.1.3) 

    Counterfeit parts prevention (Clause 8.1.4) 

    Supplier control and flow-down (Clause 8.4)

    Required Experience

    • Direct experience developing and implementing AS9100D (not just maintaining it)

    • Aerospace & defense CNC machine shop background

    • Led or heavily supported AS9100 certification audits

    • Strong working knowledge of:

    o AS9100D & ISO 9001

    o AS9102 First Article Inspection

    o Document control & configuration management

    o NCR, RCCA, CAPA, and audit response

    • Comfortable leading audits and walking the shop floor

    • U.S. Person eligible for ITAR-controlled work

    Nice to Have

    • Experience scaling a QMS during growth or facility expansion

    • Supplier quality and outside-processing oversight

    • Digital QMS / eQMS implementation experience

    • Background in complex machined structures, tight tolerances, or castings
