Valve Sales Specialist - West Territory

This sales position will be based in the West with a territory encompassing the Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, California, Washington and Oregon. Ideally the candidate will be based in Phoenix, AZ, but a non-Phoenix base is not disqualifying. Primary valve sales responsibility will be directed at the distributor, contractor and end-user markets. Working under the supervision of the Vice President of Valve Sales with some additional direction provided by senior sales leadership (product & region), the Valve Specialist is provided the opportunity to learn or expand upon his/her knowledge of the valve industry and sales knowledge/strategies, all while earning a competitive base salary plus commissions. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Drive demand to grow sales in assigned territory.
Call on end product users and contractors to promote new and existing product lines as well as develop favorable positions on specifications and approved material lists (AML).
Call on engineering firms/specifying entities/EPC’s to promote new and existing product lines and develop favorable specification position and brand acceptance.
Perform product training for end users and distributors to promote advantages of valve products and enhance specification position and brand acceptance.
Provide complete service to established distributor network including: Collaborate on project quotations, product training, technical and literary support, product complaint resolution, etc.
The above duties/actions with respect to securing specifications, AML penetration and brand acceptance i.e. “demand generation” will comprise 75% of the Valve Specialist’s time.
Develop cooperative relationships with key distributors and end user personnel to enhance product demand.
Support & partner with company regional territory sales teams/agents as needed.
Establish sales goals and specification objectives to meet company sales budget.
Identify significant bid opportunities and provide complete project information, including strategy.
Provide after sale service support, including warranty and claims management.
Actively participate in trade organizations to promote Anvil/Smith-Cooper products.
Continuously update end user and project database for territory.
Provide Corporate Sales office with monthly sales forecast and market overview.
The above duties/actions with respect to distributor and sales team support activities will comprise 25% of the Valve Specialist’s time.
Required Skills Required Experience
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of five (5) years outside sales experience in the valve industry or related field (construction, piping, etc.).
A strong understanding of the Industrial/Mechanical Market.
Requires strong analytical skills.
Must demonstrate good judgment, decision making, and ability to plan and accomplish required goals.
Valid driver’s license with no major violations.
Ability to cover large geographical sales territory by car and/or airplane.
Intermediate computer experience with particular proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint programs.
High level of outgoing interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
Comfortable with public speaking engagements and the ability to deliver presentations to large groups.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Primary work days will be Monday through Friday; work hours will vary based on customer hours and may require overnight travel. Evening customer meetings and/or entertainment may be required during sales travel. Occasional weekend work will be required for industry events, trade shows, customer events. This position works out of a home office.
