    RESEARCH TECHNICIAN – NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASE

    Van Andel Institute (VAI), a leading independent biomedical research facility, is dedicated to determining the epigenetic, genetic, molecular and cellular origins of cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases, and translating those findings into effective therapies. The Institute is home to more than 200 scientists and support staff that work in on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe.

     

    The Henderson Neurodegenerative Disease Lab at the Van Andel Institute, is expanding our thriving research team for the study of neurodegenerative diseases. We are currently seeking to hire a FULL-TIME RESEARCH TECHNICIAN to join our lab. As a Research Technician, you will participate in projects aimed at understanding the underlying etiology of diseases like Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer’s disease and evaluating treatments for those diseases in preclinical models.

     

    ROLES: A Research Technician is an integral member of any laboratory. You will participate in all lab projects and be given the opportunity to contribute as an author to lab publications, pursue promotion, and to prepare for your next career step.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors or higher degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field
    • 1+ years of experience in wet lab research

    DESIRED SKILLS - In addition to a responsible and collaborative ethos, you should possess the following experience:

    • Animal research
    • Biochemistry (protein extraction, Western blot)
    • Molecular biology (PCR, cloning)
    • Maintenance of lab notebook

    CANDIDATES WITH THE FOLLOWING EXPERTISE WILL BE PREFERRED:

    • Animal surgery
    • Animal husbandry
    • Sterile cell culture
