Job Summary:
The ASC Consultant Pharmacist provides expert pharmaceutical care and consultation services to Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, optimizing medication management, and enhancing patient safety. This role involves collaborating with healthcare teams to develop and implement medication policies, conducting audits, and providing education to staff to support high-quality patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure ASCs adhere to all applicable pharmacy regulations, including those set by the Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS, and accrediting bodies (e.g., AAAHC, The Joint Commission).
- Medication Management: Oversee medication procurement, storage, dispensing, and disposal processes to ensure safety, security, and compliance with best practices.
- Policy Development:Develop, implement, and maintain medication-related policies and procedures tailored to ASC operations.
- Quality Assurance:Conduct regular audits of medication use, storage, and documentation to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Staff Education: Provide training and in-service education to ASC staff on medication safety, proper administration, and regulatory updates.
- Clinical Consultation: Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative medications.
- Formulary Management:Develop and maintain a formulary for the ASC, ensuring cost-effective and evidence-based medication options.
- Controlled Substances Oversight: Monitor and manage controlled substance inventories, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with DEA regulations.
- Emergency Preparedness:Assist in developing protocols for medication-related emergencies, including crash cart management and emergency drug availability.
- Performance Improvement:Participate in quality improvement initiatives, analyzing medication errors and adverse drug events to enhance patient safety.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of consultations, audits, and recommendations, providing reports to ASC leadership as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Active pharmacist license in [Insert State] (or eligibility for licensure).
- Experience:Minimum of 2-3 years of pharmacy experience, preferably in an ASC, hospital, or clinical setting. Prior consulting experience is a plus.

Work Environment:
- Single Medicare Accredited ASC location.
- Combination of on-site consultations and remote work, depending on facility needs.
- Flexible hours, with occasional availability for urgent consultations or emergencies.
