  • Responsibilities

    We are looking for a 1099 Contract Editor with a good sense of what makes an interesting angle to a story to juggle all the publications' moving parts. You will plan, coordinate, review, and edit content. The successful candidate will decide which ideas should be pursued and which should get dropped to meet quality and accuracy standards. The goal is to provide exceptional, informative, and engaging content. This role will be responsible for the ASHI monthly Reporter print publication content and planning and manage and contribute to content for the online platform, the ASHI Newsroom.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinate print and online publishing cycle and manage content areas
    • Set publication standards and establish goals and expectations
    • Suggest stories and generate headline ideas in alignment with the targeted audience’s preferences
    • Review layout proofs and check content for accuracy and errors
    • Proofread, edit and improve stories or pieces
    • Recruit and manage writers and contributors
    • Cooperate and liaise with designers, advertising reps, writers, etc.
    • Comply with media law and ethical guidelines
    • Meet deadlines and budget requirements
    • Collaborate with staff to brainstorm content topics
    • Contribute 2 original articles per month (700-1000 words each)
    • Coordinate editorial publications and meetings
    • Control schedules and enforce deadlines (for writers, advertising reps, etc.)
    • Assist in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style, and tone
    • Resolve issues as they arise

    EDITOR INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS:

    • Proven work experience as an Editor
    • Strong writing/editing/proofreading skills with samples
    • Hands-on experience with MS Office
    • Proven familiarity with SEO and social media best practices
    • Excellent written skills in English
    • An eye for detail along with critical thinking
    • Driven, self-motivated disposition.
    • Ability to work with minimal guidance.
    • BS/BA degree in Journalism, English, or related field
    • Experience or previous knowledge of home inspection, real estate, or construction industries a plus
