Job Description
The Purchasing Manager has primary responsibility for ensuring the availability of all raw material and ancillary items required to support product manufacturing, packing, and shipping.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure a reliable supply of high-quality materials at competitive prices to support seasonal and often irregular production volumes. General commodity groups include:
- Galvannealed and Stainless Steel sheet in 18 and 22 gauge from local and overseas sources
- Die-Cast Hardware and Fasteners
- Aluminum Extrusions
- Cardboard Packaging and Shipping Materials
- MRO Items for industrial processes/equipment
- Monitor inventory levels and understand usage patterns and production data to accurately forecast needs and coordinate deliveries from vendors
- Proactively find and qualify new suppliers that can help improve supply chain reliability and/or reduce overall costs
- Manage one Purchasing Assistant/Buyer who performs many of the daily order placement, expediting, receiving, and invoice processing activities
- Work with Sales to gain early visibility of requirements for special materials, and ensure availability to achieve best lead time to our customer
- Identify, monitor, and interpret reliable indices for key materials, and use to purchase strategically
Additional responsibilities, depending on candidate skills and experience, may also include:
- Inventory control
- Production scheduling
- Outbound freight carrier management
REQUIRED SKILLS
· Must have at least 5 Years of experience in Purchasing in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 of those years as a Purchasing Manager
· Must be a structured thinker and proficient with modeling tool(s) such as Excel
· Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
