    Job Description

    This position is located in Sacramento California, and provides support throughout the west coast.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Managing oversite of members of CIH and safety; responsible for administration and implementation of site safety plans. Monitor & enforce the FDT safety program through the responsible management of the F.D. Thomas, Inc. Safety and Health program. This position reports directly to the Division Leader of Roofing & Waterproofing in Sacramento California, with a dotted line to the corporate director of safety, and works closely with Project Management, Superintendents and Project Leaders. Some key responsibilities and objectives for this role include managing and driving the following:

    SOME KEY OBJECTIVES INCLUDE:

    • Plan and administer site specific safety plans, including but not limited to:
    • Respiratory Protection
    • Fall Protection
    • Lead Abatement
    • Confined Space
    • Hazardous Communication
    • Lock out/Tag out
    • Monitor & enforce safety compliance on assigned project from start to finish
    • Schedule, collect and monitor IH samples
    • Accident and incident investigations
    • Site safety audits and recommendations
    • Calibration and upkeep of monitoring equipment
    • Conduct Safety & IH Training as required
    • Safety communications channels (may design hotline or other tools)

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assess, Anticipate, Recognize, Evaluate and Mitigate Safety & Health factors in the workplace
    • Provide field personnel with timely interpretation in support of resolution of field issues
    • Evaluate Site Hazards and develop JSA and Task Specific Lift and Fall Protection Plans
    • Conduct and Participate daily & weekly tool box and safety meetings
    • Provide mentoring to field personnel in regards to safety & health
    • Accident and incident investigation & reporting occurring to all employees, visitors, subcontractors and others
    • Immediately correct any unsafe condition; document and advise proper chain of command
    • Ensure appropriate follow-through for any safety related infraction
    • Provide assistance to establish priorities and procedures to correct any safety violation
    • Maintain a system for reporting, monitoring and correcting all safety problems. Document all issues and corrective actions taken
    • Assists in preparing safety policies and procedures; implement all policies and procedures
    • Participates and advises the Corporate Safety Committee and maintains close communication with administration in matters of safety requiring management action
    • Perform daily jobsite inspections for any conditions that pose potential safety problems. Document all inspections.
    • Enforce Safety requirements and disciplinary action as needed
    • Assist the Corporate Office & Site Personnel with establishing and maintaining an effective Safety & Health Program
    • Perform Safety & Health Assessments of work activities
    • Assist management with Safety & Health Compliance concerns
    • Evaluate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Systems for adequacy
    • Maintain Employee Safety & Health Records

    KEY REQUIREMENTS - WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM:

    • 8 years of Professional Safety Leadership experience, and/or a combination of education and experience;
    • Basic knowledge of service lines and fundamentals of roofing, waterproofing, painting and infrastructure restoration
    • Knowledge and experience and practice of industrial hygiene including methods, procedures, and techniques used in collecting samples and testing for health hazards common in the industrial painting business such as dusts, mists, vapors, noise, etc.
    • Ability to effectively assess and manage safety & industrial hygiene problems
    • Working knowledge of all state and federal OSHA regulations related to industrial and construction industries
    • Proficient in Microsoft word, excel and power point
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with others across the organization
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills. Exceptional attention to details
    • Outstanding work ethic, ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines, prioritize and deliver multiple tasks on time
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Advanced personal computer skills
    • Good problem solving skills, intellectual maturity, and relationship management skills

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

    • Vocational School, Associates, or Bachelor's degree in related field
    • Experience in industrial and commercial construction environments
    • Successful results in OSHA compliance

    SAFETY CERTIFICATIONS:

    • OSHA 30 / 500
    • CSP preferred
    • CIH helpful

    TRAVEL:

    • Travel to various projects throughout California several days a week (majority of time spent visiting projects in Northern California. Possible overnight travel to other areas; approx. 20% average
