ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc., and will be assigned to the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located at 4770 Buford Highway NE, Atlanta, GA, to provide services to satisfy the objectives for DHDSP.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Health Communications Specialist II will independently provide services to satisfy the overall communications needs of the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention. This work will require a senior level and experienced communications professional who is responsible for communications message and materials development including writing and editing, media relations support, editorial planning and coordination, and duties as listed below.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- General writer/editor and proofreading support.
- Media relations support.
- Editorial planning and coordination.
- Maintenance and enhancements to DHDSP intranet, SharePoint, and other internal platforms.
- Maintenance and optimization of DHDSP partner and stakeholder mailing list operations.
- Content development for DHDSP weekly emails, CDC Features, CDC Connects and other internal communication activities.
- Develop messages and communications materials for the Division's internal and external communication channels.
- Prepare materials, including communication planning documents, dissemination/distribution plans, talking points, and feature articles.
- Translate scientific content into plain English information for the public understanding.
- Refine messages and presentations for Division Leadership.
- Develop new and update existing communication projects to support Division priorities.
- Support issues and information management requests related to heart disease and stroke prevention through communication, policy and partnership channels.
- Partner meeting travel and attendance - Contractor might be authorized to travel with CDC staff to provide technical support/assistance to CDC and partner organizations. Contractor travel cannot take place unless specifically authorized in writing by the Contracting Officer and funded via contract modification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in health, science, or communications related field with at least 5 years of documented experience working in digital media for CDC, federal agency, or related public health entities. OR
- Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) with emphasis on communication with significant experience with developing health/science digital media content
REQUIRED:
- Must have experience with media relations.
- Media relations experience and media strategy consulting.
- Experience with scientific communications, preferably public health.
- Experience with Media product/channel development.
- Experience with stakeholder management.
- Writing and editing experience. Must be adept at higher-level editorial tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software.
- Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to deliver on allocated tasks and respond in a timely manner to deadlines.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
- CDC or other federal health communication background is highly desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
REQUIREMENT:
- Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.
