    Director of Construction / Production Manager
     

    Purpose

    The Director of Construction / Production Manager is a key leadership position in our integrated architecture and construction business model. The Production Manager oversees all the jobs in production, including packaging jobs for successful execution, ensuring we have happy clients and setting procedures and standards for safe and high-quality work.

    You will take the vast experience in residential construction you have built over the years and pull it all together by working with the design team to package projects for success in pre- construction, managing the production team to ensure high quality craftsmanship and happy clients during construction, and refining procedures after post-construction job autopsies to ensure constant improvement. You won’t have to deal with the daily physical and emotional wear-and-tear of construction, but you will keep a strong connection to the work in the field and you will be able to pass on the knowledge you have amassed as a mentor to those following you in the profession.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Ensure compliance of all company rules, regulations, policies, and agreements. Perform job autopsies and refine systems and procedures as needed to prevent the recurrence of any issues.
    • Manage safety program, skills development, and training of all field staff.
    • Refine preliminary cost estimate developed in design into final construction price.
    • Package projects for production and manage the handoff of the project from design to the Superintendent.
    • High-level project management of jobs in production
    • Visits each jobsite once weekly (minimum) to inspect the progress of the work and ensure compliance with company standards on quality, safety, and cleanliness.
    • Runs weekly production meeting with superintendents to ensure efficient and successful progress of all jobs and to provide a forum to share lessons learned to improve company procedures.
    • Manages all field staff scheduling. Coordinates with Superintendents as to who needs employees on jobs.
    • With Office Manager, tracks production costs for each job compared to budget and prepares job cost tracking report for review with the President and Superintendents.

    Position Requirements

    • Minimum ten years of full-time experience in construction superintendent and/or project management roles with three years of management and supervisory experience of multiple job sites.
    • Hands-on experience in residential remodeling either as a Carpenter, Lead Carpenter, Superintendent, or other trades person.
    • Mastery of typical residential and commercial construction methods, techniques, and systems; and building codes including local and state building codes. Must have a working knowledge of building trades including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, and know basic code requirements for those trades.
    • Experience estimating remodeling jobs including the ability to comprehend construction drawings, do accurate material takeoffs, and develop a cost estimate within 5% of the actual cost
    • Valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record.

     

    This is a full-time, salaried position (exempt from overtime) paid on a weekly pay period. We offer holidays, paid time off, medical/vision/dental insurance benefits, 401k including company contribution, and profit-sharing.
