Axiom provides unprecedented access to the International Space Station today while building and operating its successor – the world’s first international commercial space station – to improve life on Earth and foster possibilities beyond it.  Our mission-driven team is seeking a bold and dynamic Engineering Intern who is preoccupied with big questions: Where do we go from here? What are the limits of innovation and exploration? How do we continue to evolve as a species?

    SUMMARY: This position will work on-site at our headquarters in Houston, Texas and will be primarily focused on defining and implementing Axiom’s Human Factors strategy, planning, implementation, evaluation and testing.  This role will also encompass all phases of the space systems development process including requirements definition, system and spacecraft interfaces, system and spacecraft design, assembly, integration, test, and mission operations where the crewmembers are involved. The 2023 spring intern program will run from June 5 to August 18 and will be onsite at Axiom Space HQ in Houston, TX.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assists the team for the design and development of special purpose space vehicles and satellites including structural components of aeronautical or aerospace products or systems hardware or avionics systems
    • Assists the team for the design and development of analytical programs concerned with ground or flight testing, or development of acoustic, thermodynamics, avionics, software, power or propulsion systems
    • Assists the team in conducting experimental, environmental, operational, or tests on models or prototypes or aerospace systems or equipment
    • Observes and participates in testing of models, prototypes, subassemblies, or production vehicles to study and evaluate operational characteristics and effects imposed during actual or simulated flight and space conditions
    • Other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Pending Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering or Science, or related field required
    • Cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher
    • Must graduate from a university or college before commencing full time employment

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

    REQUIREMENTS 

    • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

    • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

    • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
