Job Description:
We are seeking a Laboratory Technician – Receiving Technician to support the shipping and receiving functions within the laboratory operations of the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS). This is a hands-on, full-time position ideal for candidates with a strong attention to detail, laboratory handling skills, and customer service orientation.
The technician will be responsible for handling biological and hazardous samples, preparing and shipping collection kits, ensuring regulatory compliance, entering data into LIMS, and providing support to laboratory personnel and submitters.
Responsibilities:
Participate in daily operations of the Shipping/Receiving section.
Receive incoming samples/specimens and verify condition, documentation, and compliance with protocols.
Prepare and ship specimen/sample collection kits and ensure accurate labeling.
Document all activities in accordance with quality control and assurance procedures.
Use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for data entry, tracking, and verification.
Notify leadership of any discrepancies, damaged packages, or out-of-spec conditions.
Communicate with internal teams, submitters, and external partners to resolve issues.
Assist with lab supply receiving, packaging, and internal distribution.
Support lab compliance with state and federal safety and biohazard regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
Knowledge of:
Laboratory terminology and practices
Specimen/sample shipping, handling, and decontamination
Quality assurance and control procedures
Biological and chemical waste safety standards
Skills in:
Accurate data entry and recordkeeping
Use of LIMS and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Drive, Calendar)
Organizational and communication skills
Safe operation of office and laboratory equipment
Ability to:
Work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently
Communicate effectively with lab staff and external stakeholders
Perform physically demanding tasks (package lifting, etc.)
Understand and follow lab policies and regulatory protocols
Adapt in a fast-paced, multicultural laboratory environment
Candidate Requirements:
Must be local to Arizona and available for in-person interviews within one week of posting close.
