About Acacia Center for Justice: The objective of the Acacia Center for Justice ("Acacia") is to expand on Vera's work over the past twenty years in providing legal support and representation to immigrants facing deportation through the development, coordination, and management of national networks of legal services providers serving immigrants across the country. Acacia's goals are twofold: to support immigrant legal services and defense networks to provide exceptional legal services to immigrants and to advocate for the expansion of these programs and the infrastructure critical to guaranteeing immigrants access to justice, fairness, and freedom. Acacia will focus the collective power of both Vera and CAIR on delivering accountable, independent, zealous, and person-centered legal services and representation to protect the rights of all immigrants at risk of deportation. Job Summary: The Associate General Counsel will join Acacia's growing in-house legal department, currently made up of a General Counsel and a Legal Department Manager. The AGC will provide legal advice and support for all of Acacia's programs and departments and will be a resource to Acacia's senior leadership. The AGC will be involved in all aspects of Acacia's in-house legal work, including transactional, compliance, and contracting work streams. As Acacia is a relatively new organization, the AGC will also play a role in developing new organizational policies, building compliance infrastructure, and supporting organizational growth and development. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Manage subcontracting under Acacia's federally funded programs: * Draft and review contracts and agreements. * Negotiate terms with funders, subcontractors, and vendors. * Provide legal analysis of federal and state contracts, including the application of incorporated laws and regulations. * Advise Acacia leadership on risk related to contractual matters. Provide legal advice and guidance to Acacia's employees and leadership: * Support the programs team by advising on contract matters or implications of federal and state laws. * Research legal matters and advise the GC or Acacia leadership as appropriate. Assist with corporate matters and compliance, including: * Regulatory matters and federal or state filings. * Employment law. * Tax and audit. Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: * 5+ years of relevant legal practice. * Significant expertise in procurement, contracting, transactional and commercial legal matters. * Experience managing a large volume of subcontractors, subgrantees, vendors, or other contracted entities. * Strong drafting and written communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to work independently on contract negotiations or other transactions of significant size and complexity. * Working knowledge of corporate legal matters such as insurance and compliance. Preferred Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: * Experience with federal contracting. * Knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Register (FAR). * Experience working in an in-house legal department, ideally in a nonprofit or government setting. Education and Experience: JD from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction. Compensation and Benefits: Acacia has established an internal compensation philosophy that centers equity and pay transparency. The salary for this position is set at $ $118,200. The salary listed is just one component of Acacia's total compensation package for employees.
