About Acacia Center for Justice:
The Acacia Center for Justice (“Acacia”) provides legal support and representation to immigrants facing deportation through the development, coordination, and management of national networks of legal services providers serving immigrants across the country. Acacia’s goals are twofold: to support immigrant legal services and defense networks to provide exceptional legal services to immigrants; and to advocate for the expansion of these programs and the infrastructure critical to guaranteeing immigrants access to justice, fairness, and freedom. Acacia ensures accountable, independent, zealous, and person-centered legal services and representation to protect the rights of all immigrants.
Job Summary:
The Data Scientist role involves supporting the team by taking ownership of technical and analytical tasks that are components of broader projects. A data scientist will produce analysis and contribute to reports under the supervision of a more experienced researcher or data scientist. They will have solid analytical and methodological experience and emerging project development and leadership skills. Data Scientists have expertise and training in statistical and possibly machine learning methodologies in a modern data science technology stack.
Data Scientists have emerging fluency in the team’s core subject areas and, over time, specialization and growth of skills that would allow them to manage products, supervise analysts or interns, and represent Acacia in conversations with external partners. In this role, data scientists begin to develop supervision and management skills and become increasingly involved in data science project design and analysis, with support and guidance from senior staff. The data scientist also collaborates with team members to advance project or initiative goals, by actively engaging in team meetings and program activities, and supports efforts to ensure Acacia’s race equity and inclusion priorities are a core aspect of Acacia’s research, including in methodological approaches, publications, hiring and staffing, and external and internal research communications.

Acacia has established an internal compensation philosophy that centers equity and pay transparency. The salary for this position is set at $80,000 The salary listed is just one component of Acacia’s total compensation package for employees.
