Job Title: Academic Support Specialist
Location: Rohingya Culture Center, 2740 W. Devon Ave. Chicago, IL 60659
Starting Salary: $16.60/hr
Supervised by: After School Coordinators, Program Director, Executive Director
Schedule / Duration: Part-time 8-10 hours a week, Monday- Thursday 6:00pm-8:00pm. Fridays 5:15pm-7:15pm Minimum 4 days a week.
Rohingya Culture Center Background:
The Rohingya Culture Center (RCC) was founded in 2016 in the heart of Chicago’s West Ridge/West Rogers Park neighborhood to meet the needs of the city’s growing Rohingya refugee population. Since 2010, over 600 Rohingya families have resettled in Chicago, and RCC has become a vital resource, offering language classes, employment support, youth programs, and access to social services. RCC serves not only the Rohingya but also other refugee and immigrant communities seeking assistance.
Overview:
This part-time position supports our After School Academic Support program. This role is responsible for assisting students with their homework and studies, as well as ensuring students are on task in working on their needed assignments. The role involves supporting academic activities, guiding volunteer tutors, and ensuring student safety during after-school hours.
Responsibilities:
Provide academic support to students during after-school hours.
Guide and assist tutors in supporting students' academic needs.
Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
Monitor and maintain student safety during after-school programming.
Help acclimate new tutors and provide guidance as needed.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Actively pursuing some form of secondary education is preferred.
Strong communication skills.
Previous experience in education, tutoring, or child care preferred.
