    Role Summary The Academic and Life Skills Tutor plays a vital role in supporting the academic growth of students enrolled in the studio’s youth programs. This position involves providing structured tutoring, homework assistance, and educational enrichment for grades K - 12. The tutor collaborates with the Work Training Lead and operates under the guidance of the Site Program Coordinator to ensure that the tutoring and life skills services meet the needs of families and students. Additionally, the tutor helps coordinate student tutors and fosters a supportive, focused environment conducive to learning both academic and functional life skills.

    Reports to: Work Training Lead and/or Site Program Coordinator Job Type: Part-Time Work Setting: Onsite in Santa Monica, CA Schedule: Typically, before or after school Monday-Friday, or between the dojo’s business hours of 10 am-6 pm

    Pay: Starting hourly pay $18 - $25, based on skills

    Key Responsibilities

    • Academic Support ● Provide tutoring in core subjects (reading, writing, math, etc.) for students with different learning abilities, including developmental disabilities ● Assist with homework , study skills, test preparation, and goal-oriented tasks, reviews, ensuring successful completion of the academic and/or life skills program ● Communicate with families as needed regarding academic and/or life skills progress of their students ● Create and continuously monitor learning goals for all students, enhancing them as students develop and advance through the curriculum
    • Program Coordination ● Organize tutoring schedules based on student availability and specific needs ● Create curriculum and gather age-appropriate educational materials and resources ● Maintain a consistent routine and quiet environment during tutoring sessions
    • Mentorship and Supervision ● Supervise, prompt, and guide student volunteers or assistant tutors ● Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and behavior modeling ● Report progress, goals, and concerns to the Site Program Coordinator and Work Training Coordinator ● Lead monthly parent meetings and communicate with families as needed to discuss student progress and development

    Qualifications ● A background in education, tutoring, special education, and/or child development ● Patient, organization, and encouragement when working with students ● Preferred experience working with students across academic levels

    Key Skills ● Knowledge of academic and/or life skill subjects (K–12) ● Ability to engage youth engagement, and individuals who are neurodivergent and/or with developmental disabilities ● Skills in mentoring and supervision ● Strong time management abilities ● Effective Communication and redirection of students, as needed
