    Academy for Young Minds (AYM) is seeking an experienced Nurse to join our team and work in our brand new, state-of- the-art private school in Long Island City, NY. Classroom ratios are 8:1:2. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

    Overview

    School Nurse will effectively provide health services for students and act as an advocate, liaison and consultant on health-related issues for staff, students and families.

    ** Desired Qualifications and Skills**

    • NYS RN licensure required
    • At least two years of nursing experience
    • Understanding of the needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and/or other developmental disabilities and their families
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills; good documentation skills
    • Computer proficiency (e.g., data base, word processing, etc.)

    ** Responsibilities**

    • Provide health services in a prompt, clinically proficient and professional manner, pursuant to NYC DOH/DOE policies and procedures to provide direct healthcare services to healthy students as well as those with chronic health conditions, including but not limited to asthma, ADD/ADHD, diabetes, allergies, and seizure disorders, including prescribed routine nursing procedures ( including but not limited to all types of medications, assessing vital signs, monitoring blood glucose, insulin calculation and injection with insulin pen or pump, utilizing epi-pen and nebulizer, and performing all types of catheterizations, G-tube feedings, tracheostomy care and suctioning).
    • Documentation of medication administration
    • Collection of medically appropriate documentation – physicals, prescriptions, allergy alert plans, etc.
    • Keep nurse’s office appropriately stocked with student medication in locked refrigerator and other supplies
    • Collaborate with school team and parents on health related issues
    • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities
    • Member of crisis intervention team
    • Demonstrate professionalism while adhering to the mission, vision and philosophy of AYM.
