POSITION DESCRIPTION
At AMPHS, we believe that education empowers healthier communities. We approach community education through an integrative, social and racial justice lens that lends to health justice. Our education programs equip immigrant populations with the knowledge to help them navigate the complexities of living in a new city and transition into post-secondary education and/or employment opportunities. At the same time, we also educate community members on their immigrant rights, healthy living, nutrition and health access, and create space for civic engagement. Our Adult Literacy classes provide an integrative curriculum that ensures students walk out of their classes with the ability to assimilate into society and become their own advocate. Furthermore, AMPHS offers certification-level classes for professionals and pre-professional students traditionally underrepresented in public health and emergency preparedness fields.
The Manager of Community Education is responsible for coordinating all aspects of AMPHS’ training and education programs. This includes workshops and training in immigrant rights, civics, health access, health literacy, emergency preparedness (CPR, First Aid, EKG), and Mental Health First Aid, as well as AMPHS’ English as a Second Language Adult Literacy Program and semester-long Clinical Practice Training Program. They will also oversee monthly education programming to advance preventative health and vaccine education in response to COVID-19, as well as education initiatives with AMPHS’ newly-formed Sunset Park Public Health Response Network. The Manager will be responsible for program outreach; instructor recruitment, training, coordination and oversight; program outcome reporting; and providing support to students as needed.
