Position Summary
We are looking for an analytical, critical thinker to join our team in the role of Staff Accountant. This role reports directly to the Controller. You will be joining our growing organization during the implementation of a new accounting system. Responsibilities include various aspects of the monthly close, assisting in the annual audit, tax returns, and continued improvements to current internal financial processes. You will be a part of a caring, dynamic dedicated team, as we serve humanitarian needs and build our museum.
Key Responsibilities:
· Maintain various accounts and ledgers ensuring compliances with appropriate GAAP standards and nonprofit accounting practices
· Ensure complete and compliant closing of books including preparation of journal entries daily
· Import/Export mass data from Database gifts/donations and create daily journal entries
· Prepare remote deposits
· Assist with month-end closing process.
· Perform various bank account reconciliations.
· General Ledger balance sheet reconciliations.
· Maintain and take ownership of maintaining Accounting Documents in SharePoint
· Prepare and maintain fund accounting schedules between entities
· Assist with external audit
· Assist with various tax returns including Form 990
· Prepare manual journal entries
· Prepare, maintain and reconcile Artifact collection lists(s).
· Back-up to Accounts Payable
· Support Accounts Payable
· Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
· Assist in developing and maintaining budget data and distributing to budget managers monthly
· Assist in implementing accounting procedures and internal controls
· Protect organization's value by keeping confidential information
· Assist with any additional or special projects, tasks or duties as needed

Required education and experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
· 5+ years’ experience in accounting or related field
· Non-Profit and Museum Accounting experience preferred
· Proficient in Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
· Intrinsic motivation to meet deadlines
· Ability to track multiple projects and funds simultaneously, including follow-up on changes projects/funds
· QuickBooks, Blackbaud & Sage/Intact experience a plus
· Experience with non-profits, and museum a plus
· Desire to learn and take on various types of responsibilities
· A self-motivator, eager to learn and grow, a fast learner
· Strong organizational and analytical skills
· Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
· A team player, must be able to work with people within and outside of the finance department
· Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and presentation
· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
· Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions
