** JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE **
The Accountant of Revenue and Gas is responsible for independently managing the accounting, analysis, and regulatory reporting of natural gas revenues and fuel-related costs for regulated gas utility operations. This role serves as a subject-matter expert in revenue and fuel accounting, ensures compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements, and supports accurate fuel cost recovery mechanisms. The position operates with minimal oversight, exercises professional judgment, and plays a key role in cross-functional coordination, audit support, and process improvement initiatives.

** ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS **
- Independently record, reconcile, and review natural gas revenues and fuel-related expenses, including purchased gas, transportation, storage, and related charges
- Prepare and review complex monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for revenue and fuel accounts with limited supervision
- Analyze revenue by customer class, rate schedule, and jurisdiction; identify anomalies, trends, and billing impacts and proactively resolve discrepancies
- Manage fuel cost tracking and support fuel cost recovery mechanisms (e.g., PGA or similar riders), including true-ups, deferrals, amortizations, and regulatory schedules
- Perform in-depth variance analysis comparing actual revenues and fuel costs to budgets, forecasts, and prior periods; clearly communicate drivers to leadership
- Serve as a key accounting liaison with gas supply, billing, regulatory, rates, and FP&A teams to ensure accurate financial, operational, and regulatory reporting
- Prepare workpapers and lead responses for internal and external audits; independently address audit inquiries related to revenue and fuel accounting
- Ensure ongoing compliance with GAAP, FERC requirements, and applicable state and local regulatory commission rules
- Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, controls, and accuracy in revenue and fuel accounting
- Provide guidance and informal mentoring to junior accounting staff as needed
** MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS **
**Minimum education required of the position **
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
** Minimum experience required of the position**
- Accountant: 2-4 years of accounting experience
- Sr. Accountant: 4+ years of accounting experience
- Preferred: utility or regulated industry experience preferred
** Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position**
- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas and data analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet month-end and regulatory deadlines
- Collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams
- Ability to interpret complex data and explain financial results clearly
- Preferred :
- Experience in a natural gas or energy utility environment
- Familiarity with fuel cost recovery mechanisms and regulatory accounting
- Experience with ERP and utility billing systems (Oracle)
- CPA or progress toward CPA certification

** Physical Requirements**
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 10 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
